I’m not a “birder” per se, but I certainly get curious when I hear a new voice on the farm. I absolutely love the Merlin app! It’s detected some visitors lately. Here’s a couple different sittings from the porch. Do you know all these??? I sure don’t! There’s always so much to learn.

As Merlin listens, it adds the name of what is heard. The list continues to get add ons and when one calls, its name will become highlighted.

I had been starting these in trays until they shot up quickly and let me know they are ready for planting. When leaving the trays, they need to gently be teased apart because they don’t like their roots upset. They were planted into grow bags which are a 10 gallon capacity where they will stay until harvest. Much like potatoes they will require “hilling” throughout the season so you might notice the ample amount of room in the bag which will allow for this.
I used three pallets and added legs. Hopefully, this will keep wildlife from disturbing the project. (Last year the ginger was in the ground and deer walked right through the planted area. 🤦🏻‍♀️)

I have pleaded with this young one repeatedly to stay in the nest as did both parents! This one is insistent on leaving the nest, even though it’s very clear that flight is not an option just yet. So now it hops along in the grass, just waiting to become a victim of Sasha or any other bigger creature . My heart can’t stand it and I know I’ll give him a few more minutes before I go scoop him up and put him back in his nest for the 6th or 7th time. I will then go inside and shut and lock the door and keep myself from looking out again and hope that I will be able to rest in the idea that I did my best. Darn kids.
