Hanch and 4 year old “Rosie” just went ahead and took care of the Royal Crown 6 and under title today as well. What a great day for a special mare and her wonderful breeders/owners!!! This was calf number 6 for her today!

Horses are no different than humans. I’ve seen some guys that weren’t the biggest, strongest or most talented win their fair share. I’ve also seen horses that weren’t the fastest and some that didn’t have the prettiest stop win a lot of money. Oz was the winningest horse I ever had but he wasn’t the most talented. The first time Joe B rode Oz was at Pueblo and he handed me the reins and said “damn that feels a lot different than it looks.” He said he didn’t really like him until he rode him.
The horse in the 1st picture belonged to Mr. Sonny Owen and I won a good bit on him at the end of my professional career. He was one of those that just didn’t beat you. The 2nd picture is Flip, ( 07 horse of the year) he was arguably the most talented one I ever owned. He won a ton of money but he also drove me crazy because he cost me plenty as well. Moral of the story, get you a winner. Don’t get caught up in how the videos look, pay attention to the win percentages.

Lanham may love calf roping as much or more than anyone I know. He made “numbered” calf roping a really big thing and paved the way for so many young ropers. I won the first USCRA finals and the last one. That’s something that I’m very proud of because I supported my friend from start to finish and made it pay off.
