Some Virginia Pines need hardly any pruning during their last shearing. Just a knick here and there. This tree only took 20 seconds to touch up with most of the trimming near the top. I like to leave as much growth untouched as possible for a more natural look.

Note: This light shearing only happens in the late Summer just before harvest. Virginia pines up until then need to be trimmed tight, tight TIGHT!

This is what I call the "Don King" stage of Christmas tree shearing.

WooHoo! Great stuff, Cheyenne - thanks for coming out and braving the heat!

I feel the other flower grower’s pain regarding the lack of rain. Seems we either get too much or we’re in a drought (Dad always called that weather pattern “feast or famine”. ) A lot of our fields have suffered but I’ve been happily surprised by the resiliency and vigor of the ones Cheyenne shot in yesterday and I’m becoming more confident they’ll still look good for at least another couple of weeks. ...IF, we get some of this weekend’s predicted rain.

Heat index well over 100 today. Perfect weather for receiving a pallet of Christmas ornaments!

Hollow Creek Tree Farm was established
50 YEARS AGO in 1976!

In honor of that, here is a non-slide-show, slide show; a sequence of pictures explaining the paradox of why tree farms are so important to our communities. What I failed to mention in the photos is…

THANKS to all of the customers, both long term and new, that have kept us in business by coming out to the farm over the last 5 decades to pick out their perfect family Christmas tree!

(Note: Except for the 6th one, all images were taken at HCTF over the last 10 years or so.)

It’s too hot to work, so here’s a few recent non-Christmas-tree images.
