A little informational post. Back when covid hit we all got quotas. Our decision was to sell a bunch of holsteins and bring in Jerseys! The idea behind it was to lower our milk volume and raise our components so we would get paid more for our milk. It worked! One of the first decisions I made was to contact Christine Sheesley-Rozler, I always loved her Jerseys! The Cowbell herd may be small but have proven time and time again they breed some of the best year after year! I asked if she had any young cows available and the answer was yes. The best decision I made. All have become great cows and now our best heifers are from them. My daughter Sam really enjoys her Jerseys and has brought heifers to Madison and Louisville the last two years, all offspring from Cowbell! Sam had Jr Champion at the Big E 4H Jersey Show in 2022 with Rosette and this past year was first Winter Yearling at The Jersey Classic, from the R family at Cowbell. This past fall Gold Digger was Honorable Mention Jr Champion at the Jersey Classic and she is from the G family at Cowbell.
My second decision was I wanted offspring from the Veronica family, the most dominant breeding family in the world in my opinion! We currently have a branch of each letter of Veronica family! The V branch, D branch and C branch. This was the decision I made to lay the foundation of our Jersey herd. We also use sons of the Veronica family in our breeding program. We feel strongly that every family we have needs Veronica blood added. For example in our last classification we scored 3 Verb daughters, all homebred/ Ginger EX-92, Suzie EX-91 and Casper EX-93-MAX! All improvements over there Dams. This week we are selling a calf we believe is extremely Special! The kind that you can show anywhere, breed to about any bull and have one heck of a cow someday. She combines the Veronica's with the Cowbell C family! It's just great breeding generation after generation! Plus her dam is sired by Rockstar so you have the Cowbell R family on the top side to! Check her out at The Massachusetts Blue Ribbon Calf Sale this Saturday.
