🔥 Firewood Education at Rolfe Farm 🔥
Here at Rolfe Farm, we enjoy educating our customers about the firewood they buy from us. One of the most common topics we discuss is the quantity of firewood we deliver — specifically, a legal cord.
📏 What Is a Legal Cord?
• A legal cord equals 128 cubic feet of stacked firewood.
• Firewood sales are regulated by the Department of Weights and Measures for the State of New Hampshire.
• Firewood must legally be sold by:
• Cubic foot
• Partial cord
• Full cord increments
• A seller must provide a sales receipt upon request.
This is similar to:
• Oil or propane companies documenting how much fuel they deliver.
• Natural gas companies listing usage on your monthly or quarterly bill.

👀 Why This Matters
We are aware that there are many great local firewood sellers in our area. However, we have also seen a few that do not quite follow these basic guidelines.
When we explain this to customers, it’s often an eye-opener — and many become repeat customers after understanding the difference.

🧮 Let’s Look at the Math
For example, a one-ton dump truck load will typically haul:
• ¾ of a cord comfortably (96 cubic feet stacked)
• Possibly a full cord by a stretch, if it’s a newer truck with a larger dump body
Now compare the cost:
• ¾ cord (96 cu ft stacked) for $300
• Equals $3.12 per cubic foot
• Full cord (128 cu ft stacked) for $350
• Equals $2.73 per cubic foot
Understanding the price per cubic foot gives you a true apples-to-apples comparison.

🚛 What We Deliver at Rolfe Farm
• We deliver a 200 cubic foot loose load
• Hauled in our 7 ft x 2½ ft x 12 ft dump trailer
• This is guaranteed to stack out to at least 128 cubic feet (a full cord)

• We have filled our trailers and stacked full cords many times.
• For some of our elderly customers, we stack the wood ourselves.
• We always take the extra 30 seconds to measure the stacked load afterward.
