Mary Ray, her mother Good Girl, Good Girl's steer Prospector and Good Girl's daughter, Larkspur. Larkspur has a steer calf but he was a few feet outside the picture. I like this group of Beefalo. Good Girl has a steer in the yearling field too and his name is Nighthawk.

This is so interesting. In 2020 we had 24 calves born. 23 were bull calves. We had 16 bulls born between January 7 - April 18. On April 19, we had a heifer calf and then we had seven more bull calves after that, with last bull calf born December 18, 2020. All of this is recorded in my cattle record book.

Upshur County has triggered for disaster relief due to drought through the Livestock Forage Program for the months of January, February, March and possibly for April. A livestock producer can receive a payment for up to five months per year maximum. The deadline to file your acreage report is July 15. Go ahead and file your application for assistance while certifying your acreage. Monies are available now. Cattle of course are eligible, but so are equine (horses and mules) if used to work cattle on your farm. Call Kathy at the agency to start the process. Verifying acreage in your own name is easy. Any leased pastures must be certified with a written lease.

I expect this girl to start growing in a hurry since her competition nurser is out of the pasture. The thief has been separated from the herd.

I'm afraid this fat little butter ball is about to go on a diet. I noticed a one month old calf wasn't gaining weight like it should. I watched to see it nurse and this fat calf was nursing its momma. THIEF!!! The poor one month old was getting what was left over. I moved the cows so I could catch him and his own momma up and noticed he was nursing another cow. He loves all the mommas. They are separated from the herd for a bit.
