Best Garden Tip Ever!🐝

Can I be honest here? I don’t think the best gardening advice always comes from the internet.

Some of the best advice we’ve ever received came from simply walking through local farmers markets and talking to longtime growers. I always find the gardeners with the biggest vegetables, the warmest smiles, and loyal customers lined up at their booths are the people worth listening to.

There’s something special about learning from someone who has spent years working the soil, learning the weather, failing, trying again, and still showing up excited to grow something new every season.

One of the best gardening tips we still use today actually came from a conversation with a local grower years ago.

So if I could give you one gardening tip this season, it would simply be this: visit your local farmers market. Talk to the growers. Ask questions. Listen to their stories.

You might leave with more than just vegetables.

Never underestimate basil. It took us a few years to really get that.

It became one of the most versatile things on our farm and in our kitchen. It’s a great companion for tomatoes, but we also learned not everyone loves fresh basil… which meant we often had more than we knew what to do with.

So we adapted.

What didn’t sell fresh, we brought back in, freeze dried, and added to our MAF Herb Blend. Then we put it back out on the shelf… and that’s when things shifted.

It sold the same day.

Funny how the smallest shifts make the biggest difference.

Needless to say we have Basil, along with an entire line up of herbs getting ready for the 2026 MAF Season! Stay tuned!

Definitely one of my favorite places on this property.

We’re getting ready for an exciting growing season, and I can’t help but think back to when we first started growing in this greenhouse not knowing much at all. It humbled us then, and it still does.

Right now, our cold-tolerant crops are living here full time until their forever home is prepped and ready. On warmer days, we bring out the warm-season crops to catch some sun, then haul them back in before temps drop.

Advice for new gardeners out there. Every year gets easier! If you are looking for tips and tricks that you likely won’t find on the internet.. go to your local Farmers Market and talk to those veggie vendors. Pay very close attention to the veggie vendors who have lines of people waiting at their table. Trust me that’s where you will find pure gold.
