We were named last, but certainly not least! 🍷🌟

Being featured in write-ups that reveal best-kept-secret wineries like ours is always an honor, and this particular article is very exciting!

Listed in order from ✨l i g h t e s t✨ to 💥BOLDEST💥 Pinot Noirs, our Pinot made the end of the list for its massive aroma, flavor, and texture (plus, a great balance of earth, fruit, and spice). We also genuinely loved the writing style of the author, who writes honest opinions about wine on Substack.

What we love about this list of wineries is the celebration of different styles. There really is something for everyone, and it is so exciting to leave a lasting impression on the palate.

Our 2021 Scavenger Syrah is officially SOLD OUT, which means... It's time to cut a donation check!

Did you know that 20% of the profits of our Syrah benefit charities? We're passionate about wildlife and its correlation with agriculture and wine, making it easy to give back to organizations that do right by animals who can't speak for themselves. This year, we're donating $3,266 to so they can continue their life-saving mission to help wild animals in need.

FUN FACT: To humanely remove animals like raccoons from indoor spaces, SCWR places predator poo from mountain lions to give uninvited visitors "the hint", encouraging them to leave the property on their own. So much better than resorting to less friendly removal practices! These little bits of education can make a big difference in how we understand the wild world around us.

Our next Syrah is now released, along with other fabulous varietals we offer like Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Viognier, and Grenache. Just in time for the gifting season! 🍷🎁

The last of our fruit is officially in! 🚛🍇✅

We ended harvest on a high note (1,300 feet!) on a *stunning* Napa Valley morning. Our friends joined us for this 2.25-ton pick nestled back on Wall Road in the Mount Veeder appellation.

This area holds an extra special place in our hearts because we lived on Mount Veeder for five years! It’s where we shared a 400-square-foot cabin in the woods and saved every penny to open our Sonoma Valley tasting room. We fell in love over wood stove fires, wildlife sightings, and blistering hot summers with no A/C. We woke up to fog hovering above the valley below, and turkey vultures riding the thermals above.

Mount Veeder will always feel like home to us, and we’re excited to create another hand-drawn label in its honor. But first, we must make the wine! 🍇➡️🍷

It’s a beautiful, cool morning to harvest Pinot Noir 🍇🧑🏻‍🌾

We’re going back to our roots 😉 at the Paladini Vineyard in Carneros, home to our *first ever* Pinot that Rob made for Schermeister in 2012.

Here we are, 13 harvests later, still doing what we love!

Another fabulous Winemaker Dinner is in the books! Happy Birthday to our member, Chuck, who brought his favorite friends, vintners, and chefs together for an evening to remember.

The peaks of the Sierras were the perfect backdrop for our four native fermented, unfiltered wines paired with dishes by Chef Remon Zamalis. We brought along a few bottles of our 2021 Cabernet Sauvignon (to be released next year, maybe?) with a whopping 24-hour decant!

Papa's got a brand new hip 🦴🎉

Look who's back in the cellar! It's our winemaker, Rob, who is now three weeks post-op from a hip replacement. He's healing at lightning speed and celebrated his first day in "the office" by doing super geeky wine stuff, like checking the free sulfites in our wines. Want to learn a little bit of science with us? 🧪🍷🦠✨

Sulfites occur naturally in wine, and they can also be added! There are two types of sulfites: FREE sulfites and TOTAL sulfites. Free sulfites are actively working in the wine to preserve it and protect it from oxidation. One sulfite gets one use, and then it's all done (think of it like paint on a canvas; paint is still paint once it's used in art, but you can't use it to paint other stuff).

Once a free sulfite works by binding to oxygen, tannin, or microbes, it is no longer FREE and now becomes part of the TOTAL sulfites in wine.

A lot of wines contain a lot of sulfites because the winemaker is moving the wine around a lot, exposing it to more and more oxygen before bottling. Adding more sulfites here and there helps protect the wine during movement, but then it starts to affect the flavor, making it taste tinny.

Because Rob's winemaking techniques require very little intervention, our wines have very few sulfites. The average bottle of wine contains 90-300 parts per million total sulfites. Our wines contain around 60-80ppm total. That's a huge difference, and you can taste it.
