Famille Perrin Rosé Grand Prebois, 2015 ($12.99) - The Perrin family is famous for Château de Beaucastel, the iconic Châteauneuf-du-Pape. The family also makes many other, much less expensive wines like this terrific value rosé from the small vineyard surrounding the family home. Although the vines are within the Chateauneuf appellation, rose wines are not permitted to use the name, so this wine just carries the Vin de France designation. Pale pastel-pink with a subtle bouquet and notes of white spring flowers (acacia and lily of the valley). Delicate, elegant, and fresh with surprising length for its price.

Alexander Valley Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon, Sonoma, 2022 ($26.99) - The Wetzel Family has been quietly making terrific wines and fine values for 50 years. This is 95% Cabernet Sauvignon. Winemaker Kevin Hall blended in a little Malbec and Petit Verdot for color, Merlot for a hint of structured dark fruit, and a touch of Cabernet Franc for aromatics. It’s deep ruby in color, with a bouquet and flavor of baked black plum, blackcurrant, and black cherry fruit. There are hints of leather, graphite, and chocolate. Medium to full-bodied, it’s classically styled and elegant with some soft tannins and a long, refreshing finish.

This Saturday, we will be opening these wines for our weekly FREE tasting:

Lauverjat Sancerre, 2025 ($35.99) – This is one of our favorite Sancerres. Unfortunately, we will run out because the 2025 harvest was small one. We’ve been carrying the Lauverjat family’s Sancerre for over ten years. It’s been consistently delicious and well-made. Husband-and-wife team Christian and Karine make this, along with son Kevin, who joined them in 2019. The Lauverjats practice sustainable viticulture. Joel visited the winery in 2022 and stayed at their small bed & breakfast.

Sister’s Run Shiraz, McLaren Vale, Australia, 2020 ($19.99) - We had such a good reception to Mollydooker Boxer Shiraz in May, that we thought we would show a more everyday-priced example for BBQ season. This very pretty Aussie Shiraz is velvety textured with hints of dark chocolate and espresso on the finish. The winery is woman-owned and operated by “sisters” Elena, Stefka, Alexandra, Alison, Dani, Daria, Fleur, Jessie, Leisa, and Sophia with help from “honorary sisters” Dylan, Pete, and Zar. Elena Brooks is the winemaker and one of the founders (2001).

This Saturday, we will be opening these wines for our weekly FREE tasting:

Russian River Valley Rosé of Pinot Noir, 2023 ($17.79) - This 100% Pinot Noir rosé is graceful with a delicate blush color and a captivating bouquet of strawberries, watermelon, & floral notes. Balancing acidity and vibrant red fruit flavors are very satisfying. Elegant, well-balanced, refined texture and a clean, refreshing finish that lingers nicely. Made by Giovanni “Gio” Balistreri with a “light touch” approach to winemaking. Russian River Vineyards’ wines have won more than 300 medals.

King Estate Inscription Pinot Noir, Willamette-Oregon, 2024 ($23.99) - The King Estate is one of the largest holdings in Oregon with 1,033 acres of vines. Entry-level Inscription includes some purchased grapes and is fermented in small batches in tanks with 20% whole clusters and daily punch downs and pump overs. 7% of the juice is bled off (Saignée) to concentrate color and flavor. The 2024 seems lighter than previous vintages, but it develops richness and a smooth texture with airing and is even better the day after it is opened. It pairs beautifully with chicken and fish dishes.

This Saturday, we will be opening these wines for our weekly FREE tasting:

Tenuta Ca’ Bolani Pinot Grigio, Friuli, 2024 ($15.95) - With its cooler climate, Friuli is one of the northern districts of Italy that makes the best Pinot Grigios. Owned by the Zonin family, the beautiful Ca’ Bolani estate is one the largest in Northern Italy. With attention to detail, this ‘boutique giant’ cultivates 90 diverse sub-plots. The wine shows notes of crunchy green pear, peach, candied lemon zest, and stony mineral in a bright and juicy version. It’s a well-balanced crowd-pleaser. Best serve around 50°.

Comando G “La Bruja,” Cebreros-Spain, 2023 ($44.99) - How can you not be love a winery called Comando G? It sounds like an action movie! It comes from the Sierra de Gredos mountains, a short distance from Madrid, where once obscure, nearly abandoned, vines of Garnacha (Grenache) have been rediscovered. Rather than an explosive and expansive character, they produce wines of thrilling weightlessness and energy. Friends since childhood, Dani Landi and Fernando (Fer) Garcia returned home to the Sierra de Gredos after completing their educations in enology and make wines from 50-80 year-old vines that are farmed biodynamically and are in conversion to organic with vines ranging from 50 to 80 years old. Wine Advocate (Luis Gutiérrez): 95!

This Saturday, we will be opening these wines for our weekly FREE tasting:

Matanzas Creek Sauvignon Blanc, Sonoma County, 2024 ($19.99) - Matanzas Creek Winery was founded in 1977 by Sandra MacIver with visionary Merry Edwards as winemaker. David Ramey followed in 1989 and put the winery on the map. Jackson Family Vineyards purchased Matanzas Creek in 2000, investing in vineyards and equipment, and built it into a larger operation. Wine Spectator 88 “Grassy and aromatic up front, with notes of lemongrass and sweetgrass that complement the crisp mix of lime sherbet, white pepper and chalk. Offers a firm, mouthwatering finish.”

Tenuta dei Sette Cieli Toscana Yantra, 2023 ($26.99) - “The Estate of the Seven Skies” sits atop a hill on the Tuscan coast at 1300 feet. Established by Erika Ratti in 1994, it is now run by her son, Ambrogio, and his wife, Sofia, with high-density Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, and Malbec. Yantra is the entry-level wine, a blend of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon and 40% Merlot. Wine Advocate 91 “This entry-level, well-valued red gives a good taste of Tuscany. Pair it with your favorite pasta dish or pizza. It sees six months in oak, but it’s just enough to add some texture and a dusting of cinnamon to a core of black fruit. Tenuta Cieli has been making a few very promising tweaks to its wine program. Winemaker Elena Pozzolini, is a rising superstar.”

We’ve got some exciting stuff for this week’s tasting!

BŌKEN Japanese Sake “Nana” Junmai Gingo ($22.99/300ml) - The Hiraizumi Honpo Brewery (sake is brewed like beer: grain starch is converted to sugar before fermentation) was established in 1487, Japan’s 2nd oldest, and uses the labor-intensive Yamahai method of wild fermentation, resulting in bold, structured sakes with deep umami, yet real elegance. This sake has a very clean, delicate richness and a silky texture. Serve chilled, of course.

Rockburn Pinot Noir, Central Otago - New Zealand, 2020 ($34.99) – A delicious, lighter style Pinot. The un-Meiomi! WA92 “The 2020 Pinot Noir came from a cool vintage with some challenges brought on by temperatures dropping so low that ripening didn’t conclude in some blocks. Fresh, mineral, & vibrant with strawberry, cherry, pomegranate pearls, and a sprinkling of ground pink peppercorns. Lovely, light, & detailed.”

Odyssée, Vin de France, 2020 ($49.99) - Ready for something unique? Put simply, this is a blend of Bordeaux and the Rhône! Odyssée revisits the 19th century tradition of Bordeaux ‘Hermitagés,’ combining the strength & energy of Médoc Cabernet with the richness/finesse of Southern Rhône Grenache.
Jeb Dunnuck: 95 “Richer/darker than the 2022 with lots of cassis, blackcurrants, and a touch of minerality. A gorgeous layered feel, plenty of depth, and terrific balance. This seriously elegant wine should evolve nicely for over a decade.” Lisa Perrotti-Brown: 94+ “Coated with expressive black fruits supported by ripe, rounded tannins and lovely freshness, finishing long and mineral-laced.” Jane Anson: 94 “Intense with more Rhône character than Bordeaux. Enticing. Good quality, with punch.”

This Saturday, we will be opening these wines for our weekly FREE tasting:

Domaine de la Tonnellerie Sancerre, 2025 ($25.59) - Between its popularity, frost-induced shortages, recent tariffs, and the weaker dollar, $25 Sancerres are becoming a thing of the past. This is quite a value, given that it comes from the prestigious village of Bué with its great sun exposure and protection from the elements. The soil is rich in minerality. 4th generation Hubert Thirot has 22 acres of Sauvignon Blanc. This is aged in temperature-controlled stainless steel vats. Enjoy it now and put a few bottles away for 2 years to see the structure and bouquet develop.

Mollydooker Shiraz “The Boxer,” South Australia, 2021 ($32.99) - Mollydooker makes big, bold, juicy red wines that take no prisoners. This bruiser sports 16.0% alcohol, but it wears it well with so much delicious fruit. ‘Mollydooker’ is old Aussie slang for a left-handed boxer. The wine has a deep and complex profile with a solid core of dark fruit, including ripe black cherries, mocha, and a hint of clove spice. Its rich and velvety mouthfeel is enhanced by a soft plummy texture and a touch of toasted oak for a rich, multi-layered experience,

Château Sainte-Roseline “Prestige” Rosé, Côtes du Provence, 2025 ($18.99) - Sainte-Roseline is a terrific Provençal estate located in Les Arcs-Sur-Argens. We have been carrying their wonderful rosés for many years. Their wines over-deliver in quality, partially because this is one of only 18 remaining properties that were originally (1955) classified as “Grand Cru” in Provence. It is the only Grand Cru in the Les Arcs sub-region, less than 30 minutes from Saint-Tropez. The Saint-Roseline vineyards are exceptional, with clay and limestone soils and underground springs that help nourish the vines, bringing natural freshness (especially important in a hot year like 2025!), balance, acidity, and minerality to the wines. The property was founded in the 11th century by a hermit named Roubaud. Today, it is managed by Aurelie (Teillaud) Bertin, whose father, Bernard Teillaud, bought it back in 2005. (His grandfather had owned it, but was forced to sell it in the early 1970s due to money problems.) Aurelie modernized it and won organic certification with the 2021 vintage.

López de Heredia Cubillo, Rioja, 2011 ($32.99) - The iconic wines of López de Heredia are unlike any others and a throwback to the way Riojas were made over 100 years ago. Founded in 1877, it was the first winery in Haro (Muga is now literally across the street), and among the first three in all of Rioja, there is nothing “modern” about the winery or its wines - no stainless steel and lots of huge, very old oak casks. All the wines (even the whites) are given extended wood aging before release. They are named for the vineyards from which they come: Tondonia, Bosconia, Gravonia, and Cubillo. The Reservas and Gran Reservas are expensive but astonishing wines that age effortlessly in the bottle. Even the rare whites!

This Saturday, we will be opening these wines for our weekly FREE tasting:

Château Sainte-Roseline “Prestige” Rosé, Côtes du Provence, 2025 ($18.99) - Sainte-Roseline is a terrific Provençal estate and one of the properties originally (1955) classified as “Grand Cru!” Organic since 2021. The Prestige bottling uses grapes from neighboring properties and comes in a beautiful, “glass”-stoppered bottle. A blend of 55% Grenache, 35% Cinsault, and 10% Syrah. it’s pale and coppery in color, very pretty, and fresh with plenty of acidity to complement the lively fruitiness. Silky and long, it’s pretty to look at and pretty to taste.

López de Heredia Cubillo, Rioja, 2011 ($32.99) - The iconic wines of López de Heredia are unlike any others and a throwback to the way Riojas were made over 100 years ago. It was founded in 1877. There is nothing “modern” about the winery or its wines, no stainless steel and lots of huge, very old oak casks. All the wines (even the whites) are given extended wood aging. Cubillo is generally 65% Tempranillo and 25% Garnacha + Mazuelo and Graciano. It’s aged 6 more years before release! WA92 “Improves with time in the glass, showing much better than expected. Great balance and very good harmony, a noteworthy red for the price.”

This Saturday, we will be opening these wines for our weekly FREE tasting:

Château des Demoiselles Rosé, Côtes de Provence, 2025 ($17.99) is a sister property to Château Sainte-Roseline and is literally next door to Château d’Esclans (Whispering Angel). It offers comparable quality at a far better price. Certified organic! Clay and limestone soils and underground springs help nourish the vines, bringing natural freshness (especially important in a hot year like 2025!), balance, acidity, and minerality to the wines.

L’Esprit de Chevalier Rouge, Pessac-Léognan, 2015 ($35.99) - The second label of the great Dom. de Chevalier (Graves Grand Cru Classé). Like Pichon Baron and Latour, Chevalier has upped the quality of its second wine by creating a third wine, that strengthens the quality of the L’Esprit. Wine Advocate: 88 “Medium garnet-purple with a nose of tar and tilled soil with dried herbs, warm cherries, and mulberries plus an accent of red currants. The medium-bodied mouth is firm, chewy, savory, and earthy on the finish.”
