Find us tomorrow at the Indoor Winter Market Series. We’ll have:
•Japanese Purple Sweet Potatoes: 🍠
You may have seen these beauties on the Netflix series “Live to 100: Secrets of the Blue Zones”. Although after digging 300 feet of these babies this fall, I’m more convinced that the longevity aspect comes from digging them more than eating them 👩🏼🌾. I also made a gorgeous vegan/paleo purple sweet potato pie with these tubers. It’s a real stunner at any holiday gathering.
•Mahon Yam (sweet potato): 🍠
A unique sweet potato with bright pink skin and deep-orange flesh. Extra sweet. No need to add sugar when cooked. Developed over 20+ years by organic grower John Mahon. Despite the name, this variety is a sweet potato, not a yam.
•Baby Ginger: 🫚
Our fresh baby ginger takes 9 months to grow! That’s right, the same amount of time it takes to develop a human baby. We order the seed from an organic farm in Hawaii and start it in February. We just dug this crop of ginger this month! The flavor of fresh ginger is unbeatable. Use it in dressings, teas, baked goods, soups, broths, and so much more.
•Dakota Black Popcorn: 🍿
An heirloom popcorn variety with dark, purple-black kernels that pop into white pieces with a black hull, resulting in a rich, nutty flavor. Pop this and enjoy, or save the seeds to plant in your own garden!
•Multiplying Onions: 🧅
We’ve grown these onions for several years now from seed stock we save back. They are the perfect versatile onion for cooking any way you want or enjoying fresh. For gardeners: You can plant these root-side down this winter. The onions will multiply underground (see photo) and be ready to harvest in early summer, once the tops turn brown and fall over.
•Garlic: 🧄
A kitchen staple and one of my favorite crops to grow! This variety is exceptionally flavorful and will store for months. Skip the garlic powder, paste, and that pre-minced junk and get yourself the real thing.
We’ll be at the Hardin Cooperative Extension Office tomorrow (11/22), 9am-1pm! See you there! 🌱
