On Thursday, February 5, the Wyoming State Board of Land Commissioners will discuss the fate of two controversial wind leases — WL-1620 (Pronghorn, Converse County) and WL-1625 (Sidewinder, Niobrara County) — originally approved on April 3, 2025.

The meeting will be held at the Capitol Complex Auditorium in Cheyenne beginning at 8:00 a.m., with discussion on these wind leases expected around 9:30–10:00 a.m.

These projects have generated significant concern and public outcry across Wyoming. At issue is the long-term use of State Trust Lands — lands intended to generate sustainable revenue for beneficiaries such as Wyoming schools — and whether industrial wind development on this scale serves the state’s best interests.

This meeting could be a pivotal moment. It will signal whether Wyoming believes the financial return from these leases truly outweighs the long-term risks:
• Impacts to neighboring landowners
• Effects on property values
• Disruption of wildlife habitat and migration corridors
• Broader community and infrastructure consequences

Our elected officials are beginning to recognize that these projects carry real and lasting impacts beyond lease payments. But public engagement matters. Decisions of this magnitude should reflect informed citizen input.

If you have concerns about how state lands are being managed, now is the time to show up. Attend the meeting. Speak during public comment. Make your voice part of the official record.

Opportunities like this — to influence decisions affecting tens of thousands of acres of Wyoming land — are rare.

Your participation matters.
