πŸ’Έ I built an app with AI. Part 4 (final): pricing that grows with you

When I started on Shopify, so many apps were $60 a month right out of the gate. Your choice was a free demo that did almost nothing, or a big monthly bill while I had barely any orders. That's tough when you're just getting started.

So I looked for apps that grow with you. Free while you're small, then you pay a bit more as your orders increase. That kept my overhead low, let me invest in other parts of the business, and meant I paid them more only as they gave me more value.

If this app ever becomes a service, that's exactly how I want to run it:

🌱 Just starting out? Free.

πŸ“¦ Pulling more than 10 orders from Shopify? That's the first paid tier.

πŸš€ Crushing it at 50+ orders? The next tier.

When the app is helping you grow, you help it grow too. That feels fair to me πŸ’š

Thanks for following this whole series! Now it's time to go do a delivery ✌️🚚

Would pricing like this make you more likely to try a new tool? Let me know below πŸ‘‡

πŸš€ I built an app with AI. Part 3: who else could use this?

My friend Eric runs a juice business with production and two delivery days every week. I'm positive he'd love this: orders pulled straight from Shopify and production days planned automatically.

And it's not just juice. I think any made-to-order business with online ordering and delivery could use it: microgreens, juice, meal prep, bakeries, you name it.

Here's what it handles:

πŸ“¦ Orders pulled automatically from Shopify

🌱 Production planning done for you

πŸ—ΊοΈ Built-in routing to split deliveries between drivers

πŸ‘₯ Employees and teams, so everyone stays organized

⏱️ Punch clock

πŸ“… Shared calendar

πŸ’¬ Messaging

βœ… Task assignments for everyone

There are great tools out there. Homebase is mostly scheduling and a punch clock, and ADP is mostly punch clock and payroll. But I haven't found one app that does orders, deliveries, time tracking, messaging, calendar, and tasks all in one place.

Maybe I just haven't looked hard enough. So tell me: does something like this already exist? And if you run a production or delivery business, would you use it? πŸ‘‡

πŸ€– I built an app with AI. Part 2: what it does now

I started coding with Claude, and it's been great for someone like me who isn't a developer.

The first version was simple: pull orders straight from Shopify, run them through my old Excel formula, and spit out a planting list automatically. No more manual entry every Friday. It took about six hours 🀯

Then I thought, what else can this do? So I kept adding:

πŸ—ΊοΈ Delivery mapping, so other people can run routes

πŸš— Delivery driver management

πŸ₯¬ Market inventory

πŸ” An audit system for when customers move orders around

⏱️ A timesheet and punch-in system, since everyone's on their phone anyway

πŸ“… A calendar

βœ… Daily briefs and task lists

πŸ’¬ A messaging module

What started as a shortcut has turned into a full operations app for the business.

And here's where it gets exciting: if I polish it up and team up with a buddy of mine who's a computer engineer, we might be able to offer it as a service to other small production businesses πŸ‘€

Small business owners, would a tool like this help you? What would you want it to do? πŸ‘‡

🌱 Can a microgreen grown on nothing but water really be nutritious?

A lot of microgreen varieties take more than two weeks to grow. If nothing is added to the system during that time, the plant can only draw from what's already inside it. It keeps pulling from its own stored nutrients just to keep growing.

Growers who want to fix that usually add nutrients to the water. In my experience, that's where the problems start: off flavors and other quality issues.

That's why we take a different approach. We grow in our own soil mix with crab meal and kelp meal, so the plants have real food to draw on from day one and don't have to run on empty πŸ’š

Better inputs, better greens. It's that simple.

πŸ’» I built an app with AI. Part 1: the old way (it was a lot)

Before the app, here's what happened every time you placed a Shopify order:

πŸ“§ I'd get an email notification and check the order on Shopify

πŸ“Š I'd type it into an Excel planting spreadsheet by hand

πŸ“ I'd file the email into an "Order Added" folder so I knew it was in the sheet

🌱 The spreadsheet estimated my trays and supplies, and I'd plant on Saturday and grow for nine days

πŸ“ On Monday, I'd write out every box I needed: super spicy boxes, spicy samplers, boost samplers, all of it

🏷️ Then I'd handwrite a sticker for every order with your name, address, order, delivery region (north, south, east, or west), and who was delivering it, usually me and sometimes my brother

Every. Single. Week. πŸ˜…

At some point I thought: with all this new technology, there's no way I can't build something simpler.

So I did. Part 2 is coming soon, where I'll show you what the app does now πŸ‘€

Small business owners, what's the most tedious task you still do by hand? πŸ‘‡

10/08/2026

πŸ—£οΈ Yes, I talk to myself. A lot.

I've spent a lot of time working on farms and living on my own, so talking out loud while I work just became normal for me.

So I figured, why not hit record? Same habit, just with an actual topic instead of me rambling about what I'm doing next πŸ˜‚

Here's how it works:

πŸŽ₯ I film a 10 to 15 minute video of me working and talking

βœ‚οΈ Descript automatically splits it into 5 to 7 short clips

🎬 I refine each one into a tight 30-second video that's (hopefully) worth your time

That's how these videos come together right now. Weird? Maybe. But it works, and I actually enjoy it 🌱

Thanks for listening to me talk to myself πŸ’š

Do you talk to yourself while you work too? Be honest πŸ‘‡

🌱 Our microgreens last 3 to 4 weeks. Here's my theory on why.

Store-bought microgreens usually last about a week, tops. Ours regularly stay fresh for three or four weeks in the fridge. So what's different?

Here's what I figured: plants grow stems down and leaves up, packed in tight with all their neighbors. So why not keep them that way after harvest? We pack every box stems down, canopy up, just like they grew, surrounded by the same greens they were growing next to.

I thought they'd be happier that way, and sure enough, they are. They just keep going 😎

Full honesty: I can't prove this is the reason. It's my theory, based on what I've seen. So please don't roast me in the comments πŸ˜… But the results speak for themselves πŸ’š

Try a box and see how long yours last. Link in bio to order πŸ‘‡

🏭 What's next? Hopefully, a facility.

Here's the third piece of my content plan, and it's a big one.

Within the next six months to a year, depending on how things go, I'm hoping to find a facility for Greco Greens. When that happens, I'll have a whole new world of content to share:

🌱 Tours and walkthroughs of the space

🌱 More types of production you haven't seen yet

🌱 The full transformation, from empty room to working farm

Until then, I'll keep filming whenever an idea hits me. Editing shorts is getting easier, so more quick, spontaneous videos are coming your way.

Marketing is the thing I avoided for years, and now I'm sharing the whole process with you. My plan is to keep this up for as long as this business exists. Hold me to it πŸ˜…

Thanks for following along πŸ’š

What would you most want to see inside a microgreens facility? Drop it below πŸ‘‡

πŸ“ˆ 1% better every video

I'm only on my fourth or fifth round of videos, and I can already see progress from the first batch:

✨ Adding a quick intro

✨ Better on-screen text

✨ Cutting the dead air between words

✨ Snappier pacing that's easier to follow

None of it is huge on its own. But stacking a 1% improvement every round adds up fast πŸ’ͺ

Next challenge: figuring out a format for markets and events. These longer videos work well for showing production and sharing my thoughts while I work. At a busy market, though, the content will need to be shorter, more focused, and more to the point. Still working that one out.

So I'm asking you: what would you want to see from us at a market or event? Behind the booth, customer favorites, tastings, something else? Tell me below πŸ‘‡

Thanks for watching me get better at this in real time πŸŒ±πŸ’š
