Craziness that happens here…
Yesterday, Kerri and I were talking about herd health when I noticed something fall out of a tree behind us. I didn’t think much of it at first.
A little while later, Kerri left, and I noticed all three livestock guardian dogs staring at something. I walked over to investigate and found a baby blue jay on the ground. As I was trying to get the dogs to back away, Mama Blue Jay was dive-bombing my head.
The baby bird then ran into the goat weaning pen, which caused Mama Blue Jay to swoop in after it. One of the fainting goats got startled and fainted.
Next, the baby blue jay decided to make a run for the alpacas. The alpacas were sure that this tiny bird was some sort of dangerous predator. While I was trying to convince them otherwise, Eli the livestock guardian dog took the opportunity to eat my dinner. I wanted that veggie wrap so bad.
As all of this was happening, Amber, our bottle baby Boer goat who cares about absolutely nothing and nobody except her bottle began screaming at me because her bottle was apparently late.
Eventually, Mama Bird got her baby to safety. Amber got her bottle. The dogs settled down.
I, however, never got my dinner as usual.
Today I decided to take a drive to my favorite farm store in Lancaster, enjoy some scenery, and mentally prepare myself to start all over again.
If I had a GoPro, I’d probably be famous.
And that’s not even mentioning the day before we put Rusty the bull in the chute for vaccines. What I didn’t realize was that he had pooped on the pull-down door that I needed to open and go under. Let’s just say it was a very unfortunate day to have freshly washed and blown-out hair. 🤦♀️😂
Life on the farm: where a baby bird, a fainting goat, paranoid alpacas, a dinner-stealing dog, and a screaming bottle baby can all become part of the same afternoon. 🐦🐐🦙🐕💚
