Duchess of Gloucester Flowers

Duchess of Gloucester Flowers Duchess of Gloucester Flowers has closed. We started as a direct marketer only (retail sales
to customers at the Williamsburg Farmers' Market).

We
expanded to the local floral trade in 2008. In 2009 we started
our edible flowers line which we offer to local restaurants
through Dave and Dee's Homegrown Mushrooms and at the
farmers market. In 2012 we switched our flower sales from largely retail to largely wholesale. In 2014 we closed the business after 8 great years.

Wonderful exhibit! Went this a.m. with Jamieson. Highly recommend it. It may be traveling soon? In NYC until Dec11.

This has been a longer and colder winter than any in the past 9 years I have grown and sold specialty cut flowers. Now that's the weather is warming up we'll be able to tell what plants thrived the cold snaps we've had. The eucalyptus plants are all dead for sure. But edibles are back again!!

The 2014 Season has started! One of my florists called me this week to see what I might have to sell. Do I have eucalyptus for sale, she asked. Seems I do.....just wasn't quite ready to end this Christmas/New Year's break. The seed catalogs are coming. And there are some lisianthus seedlings in the small heated greenhouse.
Hope everyone is off to a good start for 2014!!

We are now selling shiso through Dave and Dee's Homegrown Mushrooms, our edible flower broker. Shiso is used in Asian cuisine. The plant has beautiful purple leaves and looks a lot like Opal Basil. The distinguishing feature is it's very jagged leaf edges and it's delicious herbal fragrance (smells similar to anise). It is used in different ways including as a wrap for sushi.
So exciting that the shiso (Perilla) is going to restaurants!

So proud to be a member of the Association of Specialty Cut Flower Growers, the professional organization for cut flower growers. The ASCFG has been advocating in Washington D.C. for a locally grown flower initiative. We must get designers to support their local growers by purchasing all of their flowers from local growers and not from the floral wholesalers who buy/sell flowers that are mass-produced in South America.
