When we made the big move from Oregon to Texas a few weeks ago, I had to make some very hard decisions for the sake of space. We didn't have enough space to bring all of our adults with us, so I brought about 30 adults and 35 4-5 month old growouts. I had to part with my biggest birds to free up space, which were some of my best roosters 😭. It was a very hard decision, but i did it with a plan. Months before that, I hatched out their sons.I knew this move would hault DBF for a few months, but i knew it would be worth it for our family and farm. Right now we are in that waiting period. We are waiting for the young new generation of boys to grow and become mature. We are also waiting to start our new jobs and start looking to buy our own property here. And all of my breeds are together in one pen for this time as well. Good things come with time. I am struggling myself to be patient, but it will all be worth it 😊 . Another update, they have a run! I had an idea of building the run around their pen. It just gives me peace of mind that it's another obstacle for predators to have to dig under. Now, more shade cloth, move pavers, etc., but they seem excited 😊

We went 13 days without our stuff. It is so nice having our things again! No more sleeping on air mattresses in our room...

Getting a routine down for the coop. 8am refresh water & fill feed, 10am turn fans on, noon turn misters on, 3pm give fresh/frozen produce & refresh water and top off feed, 7pm turn misters off, 8pm put fans on the chargers for the night. I've noticed that they are ok until it hits about 93°-95°. In a few weeks i can slow down/stop a lot of the routine to keep them cool.

I wanted to share our experience. We drove from Oregon, through Idaho, Utah, Wyoming, Colorado and Texas to get here and didn't get stopped once for a livestock check. I did my due diligence and made sure my birds were up to date on NPIP and AI testing, had my paperwork within arms reach the whole time, and never needed it. 🤣 Better safe than sorry 🤷‍♀️

This egg gives me hope that my chickens are adapting and they are going to be ok. Hopefully this is a first of many more...
