You might wonder: what is the chalky white film on our fruit trees?

That would be Kaolin Clay, mixed with water and sprayed over the fruit. Kaolin deters a huge range of insect pests and even offers some deer protection, thanks to its chalky film which creates an unpleasant surface and masks the fruit's scent, deterring bites.

Best part is at harvest time, just give it a quick rinse, wipe thoroughly, and eat!

After experiementing over the years with various organic or nontoxic sprays, Kaolin Clay is the simplest, most inexpensive, yet effective option I've found to replace the multiple conventional pesticides typically sprayed on orchards throughout the growing season 🍎 🍏

Here's your reminder to leave those native flowers around!! Though these may look like weeds, they have more nectar and support native pollinators in a way non-native flowers can't.

This chicory is perennial (will come back year after year) and was spotted being visited by honeybees all morning.

More native pollinators equal more fruits & vegetables and a healthier ecosystem
