We'd like to announce our winter release of Lucia by Pisoni wines. These Estate Cuvées and Soberanes Vineyard selections reflect a deep familiarity with the land.

What does it mean to know a place? After generations of living and farming on this land, we enjoy a deep connection to this soil and the vines that grow in it. The details of each vineyard site are critical for understanding the subtleties that make these wines so special.

Pictured here is Soberanes Vineyard from above. One feature we’ve always found fascinating about Soberanes is the crevasse that divides the vineyard in two. This feature is a symbol of the history, weather, and soil that make this vineyard so special.

We always appreciate the features of each vineyard site that channel the spirit from which they come.

The Fall 2025 Release is here.

Gary Pisoni has long been described as the patriarch of the Santa Lucia Highlands AVA because of his pioneering work as farmer and winemaker in the region. Less recognized is the unwavering support Jane Pisoni, the 100-year-old matriarch of the family, provided her son Gary across the decades. Today, as we announce the release of our 2023 Pisoni Estate wines, we pay homage to her.

At Pisoni, quality of farming and wine—over generations—has always been our mission. Achieving that includes the health of not only our vines, but our soil and environment. Our resident bees contribute greatly to the health of our land. As Vinous’ critic Billy Norris writes, “Pisoni is a bastion of conscientious, wholistic farming, environmental awareness and connection with the land—or more simply, excellence.”

You may learn more about the role bees play in producing high quality Pinot Noir by following the link in our bio.

Just shy of 30 years old, the 51 acres of vines on the eponymously-named Garys’ Vineyard are maturing, and may yield less fruit yield than they did in their youth, but reward with incredible depth and concentration. Today, we are pleased to announce the release of the most recent vintage from this vineyard. Included with our summer release is the Syrah harvested from the rocky and high-elevation ridge of Pisoni Vineyards: Susan’s Hill.

The 2023 vintage was a cold, late vintage that required much patience. It was particularly special as the latest harvest since 1999—also the first year fruit was harvested from the Garys’ Vineyard. To read more on this extreme and rewarding vintage and the wines, follow the link in bio.

For the Pisoni Family, fall is a time to give thanks to Pinot Noir. Today, we announce the release of our Pisoni Estate Pinot Noir, a bottle described by as “. . . a match for any number of Grand Cru Red Burgundies . . .”

Fall is also the time to honor our maverick winemaker, Gary, who had the vision to create the spectacular acreage of Pisoni Vineyards from hard-scrabble soil his family allotted to graze horses and cattle. To read more about his journey into winemaking, or to purchase, please follow the link in bio.

We are pleased to announce the summer release of our Lucia wines. The 2022 Garys’ Vineyard Pinot Noir and Susan’s Hill Syrah are two beautiful examples of our farming and the Santa Lucia Highlands. It is no secret that Gary Pisoni is always ready to share a glass of Pinot at a wine event, but Pigs and Pinot, hosted by , is always an extra special event.

In true Gary fashion, he had the audience buckled in laughter with stories of first planting grapes in the rugged Santa Lucia Highlands, and of how Pisoni Vineyards has evolved with the vision of sons, Mark and Jeff.

We are always so honored to share our story, and if good wine and food are involved, even better.

What a special way to end the harvest season—Finishing 2023 and reflecting on 2021.

Even if it was only two years ago, as farmers and winemakers, we love the idea of looking back to various vintages. Every vintage of wine gives us a memorable snapshot of the weather, the vintage and life during that year.

2021 was magical from start to finish, and we always enjoy the precise character and minerality of this site. We are beyond grateful to have our 2021 Chardonnay from Soberanes Vineyard included with the Top 100 Wines of the year. This is a very special award that we’ll think of when opening this wine over the next two decades. We hope you have some saved in your cellar (We know that Gary does!).

Today we are delighted to release our 2021 Pisoni Estate wines. It has been a two-year wait since our last release of these, but our patience was rewarded with remarkable weather that made for a beautiful and age-worthy combination. The 2021 vintage has everything we look for in a wine, and we are excited to share them. Gary is particularly excited to restock his cellar, too!

Our fall release is normally occurring during the busy hours of harvest. This year, it occurs during a quiet period of waiting for the oncoming harvest. As farmers, we learn the virtues of patience early on. The middle of September normally has us sampling grapes to decide when the upcoming harvest might begin. Currently, we wake each morning under a blanket of fog or the cold marine layer of clouds that is delaying ripening. This season is just inching it's way toward harvest, but we will not be starting for another two weeks. The vines are perfectly content and benefit from slow ripening. For us on the other hand, it’s another reminder that patience is often required to make—and enjoy—great wines.

A constant reminder of the rugged terrain and amazing geology you encounter when farming in the mountains. This is the scene when our tractor's chisel collides with a deposit of quartz. These young vines will struggle to establish their roots in this shallow soil, but their efforts will result in strength and foundation that will carry them for decades.
