The great dahlia tuber dig is over …. This is about 2/3 our dahlias😅

It was so cold and windy yesterday but with it freezing this morning, we had no choice! With tbe cold, wer weather, if left them in, mold and mush was becoming an issue!!

The boys helped so much including our master digger Tim. I wanted to get one of those exhausted, dirt in the face pictures of all of us all laying on the ground but we were all too cold and tired and exhausted 😵‍💫

We also lost count but we think we dug up anywhere from between 100-150 tuber clumps … meaning we could maybe have close to 500+ dahlias next year, maybe more if we’re lucky !!!!

Please cross your fingers and say some prayers that our tubers store well over winter!! 🥶

The great dahlia dig! 🪏

We aren’t done yet but hopefully we will wrap up tomorrow! The boys have been cutting stems and collecting worms for fishing 😆 I’ve been digging, cleaning and trimming tubers all weekend long!

I’m soo tired and my back is burning but our tubers are looking amazing!!! If all goes well with storage this season we could have over 500 dahlias next year!! 🥳

We tried the save the dahlias … most of them did not make it but maybe, just maybe a few survived! We found a few healthy green plants and ONE BUD!! It would be so fun to have even just one more dahlia this season!!! 🤞

Frost-Mass hit this morning! 🥶 33!!

We tried covering the dahlias but I’m not sure if they made it. It’s bittersweet for sure but we’re exciting for digging dahlia tubers and having even more beautiful blooms next year!!!

This might be the last of the flowers!

37° tonight may mean the end of most of our flowers. We will be cutting as many as we can so follow along to see what will be available for purchase in these next few days. 

It is always bittersweet to end the season, but also exciting as we get to plan for next year! 💕

Zinnias 😍

These beauties always amaze me! One of the first to bloom and longest lasting of the season!! They are definitely coming to an end which is always so bitter sweet.

Our season truly runs from January all the way through November believe it or not. We order our seeds typically in December and start a few of them in January and the rest of February, March, April, and even May!

Then our season runs with our beautiful blooms through the first frost, which is typically the second week in October. This year we might be lucky and it might push out a little further! But you never know!

After the first frost, we are busy collecting seeds and digging up Dahlia tubers! Then we take a few weeks off to recover, and then start cleaning, trays and tools and organizing seed and prepping for the next season!

We cannot think all of you enough for your support this season, which has been greater than ever! We have loved our you-picks, bloom bar parties, collaborations with local vendors and supplying lots of local florist with flowers as well!

Please continue to follow and like for updates for next season. Thank you again and let’s enjoy these last few weeks of gorgeous blooms!! 💐
