We just planted another group of Juneberries🙌🏼🍃

These beautiful native North American shrubs produce small, sweet berries with a flavor somewhere between a blueberry, apple, and a cherry.

Serviceberries have a long history as a valuable wild food for Indigenous peoples, and we love the idea of bringing a plant with such a rich connection to the land into our food forest.

Spa day! 🐽🫧

Mud is actually really good for pigs. It helps keep them cool, protects their skin from the sun, and gives them a natural way to care for themselves.

But sometimes that mud gets a little too caked on! Hilda had some thick clay buildup stuck in her curly coat that was making it harder for her to shed properly.

So today she got a little rinse to help loosen everything up and get her coat back in shape.

Whitney is getting her Afro back 🙌🏼🐔

Our Polish girl has been coming out of her molt looking fuller, fluffier, and absolutely luscious. Her crest is filling back in and she’s starting to look like herself again!

One thing you might notice after a molt, though, is a paler comb. A chicken’s comb can temporarily lose some of its bright red color during and after molting because the body is putting a lot of energy into growing new feathers. Hormonal changes and reduced blood flow to the comb can also make it look lighter than usual.

So while Whitney’s comb may be looking a little pale, her fabulous Afro is telling us she’s well on her way to her post-molt glow up. 💫
