OPSU Meat Lab Firestone Meat Laboratory The Firestone Meats Lab has been in operation since its construction in 1982.

It serves as a facility for student learning in the meats industries as well as providing a service to local producers and charitable groups. Under the direction of Dr. Peter Camfield and Daren Stephens, the meat laboratory is managed by Anthony Ingo and provides full service processing for local producers. Students are provided educational opportunity to learn all aspects of the meat processing i

ndustry while working in the lab. It also serves the community by sponsoring interscholastic meat evaluation contests each year and also provides workouts for local meat judging teams. Firestone Meats Lab also generously donates processed meat for several campus events as well as community wide events such as the annual graduation barbecue and Pioneer Day celebrations. They also donate processing services and meat for the OPSU rodeo team and the Texas County Fair.

The Firestone Meat Lab will be undergoing a management transition during December and January.

We kindly ask for your patience as we work through this transition, particularly regarding slaughter appointments and scheduling. Our team is committed to maintaining clear communication and ensuring your animals are processed with the same level of care and professionalism you expect. We appreciate your understanding and continued trust in our facility as we navigate these changes.

The Meat Lab will be closed this Friday, Oct. 31st as well as Monday, Nov. 3rd. The Meat Judging Team is traveling to Friona, Texas for the Cargill High Plains National Championship contest this weekend.

We will be back in the office Tuesday, November 4th and ready to be at your service!
