Sometimes it seems like their energy level overflows and they have to race around for a while.

Lambing season is off to a great start with 2 sets of F1 Valais twins born this morning to our Leicester Longwool ewes! 3 ewes and 1 ram!! Things were a little stressful for a few hours after one of the ewes wasn't interested in feeding her lambs, but she finally warmed up to them and I think she'll end up being a good mama.
We purchased these 2 Leicester Longwool ewes last fall to appease our Valais ram since we were sending all our Valais ewes for AI to diversify our stock. After seeing the luster of the Leicester fleece, I was really looking forward to seeing the resulting lambs. They certainly are adorable!!

Crutching the sheep in preparation for lambing in a few weeks. This year we decided to wait to shear until after lambing so the pregnant ewes don't have that added stress. Here's Bella, taking it like a champ, calmly standing there the whole time her back end was being trimmed!

Ugh. Mud season is the worst! 😩 The snow from the big storm a month ago has finally melted, then we had about an inch of rain this week and there's mud everywhere!! We just got a load of wood chips that we'll be spreading today so that'll help a lot. On top of this there's the potential for quite a bit more snow Sunday into Monday so we have no hope of drying out anytime soon!

We are on baby watch for these two! 😊 Willow (cream) comes to us from MKONO FARM and Lana is a Black Valley Farm Kunekune Pigs sow. We are excited to see what they produce. Also thankful the weather warmed up a bit!

Someday when I get big all my waterers will be freeze proof like this one from Nelson Manufacturing
Until then I'll just relish the sight of liquid in this bowl on frozen mornings as I carry buckets of water by to replace the ice in our other bowls.
We got this one to see if it would work well for both our sheep and pigs, and so far I'm impressed.
