When I was a teacher, I fought hard to introduce a Sustainable Agriculture class—a space where students could learn how to grow their own food, protect the environment, and build a healthier food system. Despite overwhelming student interest and full sign-up lists, WHS shut it down not once, but twice, refusing to support the class and the kids eager to learn.
Starting tomorrow, 25% tariffs will be added to imported goods from Mexico and Canada.
Why does this matter?
1️⃣ Mexico & Canada supply a huge portion of our fresh fruits and vegetables—think avocados, tomatoes, berries, apples, and more.
2️⃣ Higher import costs = higher prices at the register. Retailers will pass these costs on to consumers, meaning your grocery bill will likely rise, especially for out-of-season produce.
Meanwhile, The Henn House will once again have an overflowing garden, cartons of fresh eggs, and gallons of goat’s milk—a luxury I wish I could’ve taught my students to create for themselves.
Holler in the spring for goats milk, eggs and early season broccoli.
