# Subject: Stems are done, but peony season isn't over yet 🌸

Hi friends,

The cutting season at Whistle Stop Peonies has wrapped up — our fields are quiet now, and we're deep into deadheading and getting the plants ready to rest for next year. But if you're still dreaming in peonies, we've got good news: bare root orders for fall planting are open now.

Fall is the best time to plant peonies, giving roots a full season to settle in before next spring's show. We grow several varieties here on the farm, and here are three we think you'll love:

**White Cap**
A striking Japanese-form bloom with a buff center brushed with red that really stands out against magenta-red outer petals. White Cap has earned a Merit Award from the American Peony Society for its landscaping value — a beautiful, reliable choice for borders and beds alike.

**Spiffy**
Another lovely Japanese-form bloom, Spiffy shows off fuchsia-maroon petals with pops of pink and a golden yellow center. At just 28 inches tall, it's a great pick if you're after a shorter peony for the front of a border or a tighter space.

**Henry Bockstoce**
For something bigger and bolder, Henry Bockstoce delivers large, dark cardinal red double blooms on plants that can reach 40 inches tall. It's also nicely fragrant — a real showstopper with scent to match.

The baby robins are here, the second clutch of the season. It has rained for two days now, much needed. I pulled the last Lemon Chiffon bud from the cooler on Monday, it gave me a very nice bloom considering the Lemon Chiffon peonies starting blooming on April 24th, I think this bloom is a winner. I also pulled from the cooler, side buds of Sarah M. Napier, the miniature blooms are so pretty. I plan to give to my granddaughter at her birthday party this weekend. Maybe we can make a peony crown for her?

A Little Farm Magic at Whistle Stop Peonies

Spring on the farm always brings the sweetest surprises! During our open days, so many of you stopped to admire more than just the peonies — that cozy little robin's nest tucked in the corner of our barn became a favorite spot. We all got to watch the proud parents busily feeding their three hungry babies, and in just 7 to 9 days those little ones found their wings and flew off into the world. It warmed every heart that saw it!
Well, the nest is full again — four brand new robin's eggs are waiting to hatch, and this time I may be the sole audience… but honestly? I wouldn't have it any other way. There's something quietly magical about watching new life begin, right here among the peonies.
Meanwhile, the work never stops! Mona is out in the fields deadheading the peony plants — and with the number of plants we have here at Whistle Stop Peonies, that's no small task!
Our last Farmer's Market was Thursday, but we still have beautiful peony stems resting in the cooler — perfect if you're dreaming of a stunning bouquet! 💐
