After two failed artificial insemination attempts we are so excited to announce that OPAL IS PREGNANT!!! Calf due March 24th, 2027. Picture below of the bull we chose for Opal’s long distance relationship. Send us your best Hispanic names for this calf!

We have so much milk and cream! Mike can’t always keep up with turning it into ice cream, so we will put the freshest cream in the store for sale by the quart. Milk must sit undisturbed for at least 24 hours for the cream to separate. Then we have to skim 3 or sometimes almost 4 jars of milk to get a quart of heavy cream. It’s beautiful stuff.

Having two cows in milk means more cream!

Did you know commercial ice cream in the US has a legal MINIMUM percent of cream they need to put in their recipe? Guess how much cream goes into our ice cream…all of it!

*BIG ANNOUNCEMENT!*

Driving by you might have thought you were seeing double, but no, there really are three cows here now. The opportunity came up to purchase one of Opal’s other daughters—Juniper—who just calved in May and is in full milk now. While we anticipate Opal’s pregnancy test being positive, that also means that Opal will be declining in milk production and eventually be dried off completely. Juniper is the perfect solution to keep our farm in milk all winter. Juniper’s milk is also A2, which I will label in the store when I milk her by herself in the evenings, but morning milkings will always be combined with Opal’s milk until she is dry. This plan sadly does require that we sell Ruby, which we hope to do at the end of the year after she has been bred. But we consider this an answered prayer to bless our farm. Juniper has her mother’s sweet and patient disposition, and we couldn’t be happier about her being here.

I think all the fresh grass has boosted Opal’s milk production a little bit. She’s making a consistent 3.5 gallons/day.
