Schriver Family Farms

Schriver Family Farms Family Farm focused on Organic Ag; Pumpkins, Crop Diversity & Farm-Grown Meat lovingly raised. The Schriver Family would like to welcome you to our Farm!

We are grain farmers, but the work that our kids (3 under the age of 5 at the time) could participate in was minimal, so we started a pumpkin stand. We are blessed to have found an activity for the whole family to enjoy, while simultaneously instilling a work ethic in our children. Our girls (Emma, Leah and Alivia) are still running the show. They are our primary planters and pickers, although the

ir younger brothers (Lane and Kase) have become reliable backup. They are all old enough now to set up the displays inside, and each are finding their own special place on the farm (and voice in agriculture). Emma is continuing to improve her skills as a beekeeper and we plan to continue opening the farm to visitors during sunflower bloom. We love visiting with Friends and sharing our life with you. We hope to see you soon!

If anyone is looking for carving pumpkins, we still have some, stop by anytime!

I apologize for not having our regular pumpkin set up this year. That's a story for another day.

It's time to solve.......

The Mystery on Mennell Road:

"What is that yellow field in the back?"
-Dandelions, Mustard?
➡ It's....(drumroll).... CANOLA!

"What is canola & what's it used for?"

➡ Canola is an oilseed in the mustard family of plants, which is a Brassica.
➡Canola can be used as a cooking oil, in biodiesel & bio-plastics production, and the byproducts of crushing can be used as animal feed.
➡Canola can also be used as a cover crop (providing winter cover).
➡Canola also contributes to biodiversity (we've already received thank you notes from the bees).
➡Canola is also BEAUTIFUL!!!!

Grateful to be an and for the opportunities it provides us, our community & the environment.

Please note: with great beauty, comes great sacrifice; remember that when we spread chicken litter.

Tuesday we provided pumpkins for Fall Fest at Midview West.
Tonight we will be passing out candy at Trick or Treat on the Trail in LaGrange (after a soccer tournament). Busy, but with grateful hearts that we have the opportunity and ability to serve the community.

Belated Pumpkin Pricing Post

We don't want you to be surprised by prices when you get here!

Size and weight of pumpkins can be approximated by size and facial expression of kids trying to lift them 😉.
Or compare them to our lovely Easter Egger hen, Gus Gus.
Not shown: Our $12 pumpkins, which 2 kids did not want to try lifting 😄
Special Thanks to our friends for providing extra hands.

Corn Bundling action shots!

Me: "this makes me so happy"
Kids: "us working makes you happy, ugh"
Me: "seeing you work together and find some pleasure in it, hearing you laugh & giggle, that's what makes me happy"

We picked the last out of the pumpkin patch yesterday evening and this morning, yay! And upon asking the girls to 'just act natural', well....you can see what 'natural' is to them. 😄 A little bit of work, a little bit of play, repeat (cue daddy's frustration).

Well the wind & rain scared us a bit, so we brought some equipment out to block the wind from damaging the tent. Then the wind & rain stopped, so for tonight only (or until it storms again 😊) we're offering a 'touch a tractor' event, yay!

Our Story

The Schriver Family would like to welcome you to theFarm! Our girls (Emma, Leah and Alivia), run the show. They plant, pick and set up the display that you see (at least they help, anyway). Little brothers Lane and Kase pitch in when they are not napping. We are grain farmers, but the work that our 3 young girls (under the age of 5) could participate in was slim. They helped Dad check the crops and scout for beetles, and enjoyed the tractor rides during planting, however, we wanted to find an activity that they could become responsible for, so we started a pumpkin stand. We have wonderful plans to expand in the years to come. We are very excited that we have found an activity for our whole family to enjoy, while simultaneously instilling a work ethic in our children. Picking pumpkins, setting up the stand and bundling corn stalks is one of the most pleasurable days that we spend with our children. The kids love Friends and enjoy giving tours to our visitors. We hope to see you soon!
