The Homestead Farm Center Project is dedicated to opening opportunities to adults with disabilities to work, learn, live, and thrive in a farm setting.

The Homestead Farm Center Project, a nonprofit 501(c)3 organization founded in 2014, is dedicated to opening opportunities to adults with disabilities to work, learn, live, and thrive in a rural farm setting. Located on 100 acres of the historic Thomas Steele farm in beautiful Taylor County, West Virginia, the farm center will offer training and experience in agricultural industries to young adult

s with developmental disabilites with an emphasis on those with autism spectrum disorders. In addition to working on the farm and learning to market farm products, participants will have access to recreational activities including fishing, hiking, weaving, woodworking, and gardening.

We had lots of fun at our first Farm to Table session. We made veggie pasta with marinara sauce and pesto using tomatoes, peppers, onions, and basil from our garden at the farm. We learned a lot about healthy eating and cooking, and we topped it off with a delicious meal!

Get your tickets now for the annual Homestead Farm Center BBQ dinner featuring the fabulous Fridley Boys band! August 15 from 4-7 p.m. Delicious pulled pork and barbequed chicken, baked beans, pasta salad, green beans, and dessert will be served. Tickets $30 adult, $15 children are available at the DAC and from any HFC staff or board member.

The RURAL team harvested peppers, green beans, and zucchini in the gardens today to take home to their families. We had a wonderful cooking lesson today from Program Coordinator Carmie Lilly, followed by a delicious lunch of stuffed green peppers. Wonderful ending to a great week on the farm!

It was blueberry week for our RURAL trainees. On Wednesday we picked blueberries, and today we made them into delicious scones, pie, and salsa. Yum!
