Hello All 👋🏻
Mother Hen here, sorry it’s been so long since there’s been a update or story. Life has kept me quite busy.
Fall is settling in and the feather babies are molting.
I know many choose to not let their babies molt by providing light, as the daylight hours disappear. I have learned between having quail and chickens that letting them molt in the early fall and providing light weeks later, they seem to have more of a pep in their step and seem happier during the winter, as their bodies got a break from laying.
It’s also a time that I can collect my favorite feathers to add to my collection. The boys and girls are almost done molting already so it’s time to work on the love shack 😅
In the course of chaos I received a BEAUTIFUL Americana Rooster. I have not been able to snap a great picture yet but he looks like the brother to this one below.
GORGEOUS!!! With his markings I plan on setting him up with the Americana girls and the reds and silvers/sapphires for hatching. Thankfully I have a a few people interested in babies so come spring they’ll have layers. 👍🏻 it’ll give me a trial run at breeding for specific colors and eggs.
I still have many of my bantams. Some have gone the way of the predators, which, when you live in the country where the Eagles, Hawks, Coyotes, Bears and Bob Cats play, it’s to be expected.
I unfortunately just lost Mr. Fluffy Pants (Mr. Cochin). My neighbor had become quite attached to seeing him running around, so I plan on surprising them with a cochin clutch come spring for fluffy enjoyment. ❤️
Miss Millie Fleur has filled out nicely and my serama turned out to be a BEAUTIFUL lil boy. Alpha Roo is still keeping the order and Mr. Jerk Face bantam is still a pretty jerk and probably the reason I’ve only lost one silke girl so far compared to the other hens.
Overall the feather babies are doing good.
As fall commences I will hopefully have weekly updates, product updates and stories to share. ❤️
