When clients send us trees to be milled, we often store their lumber at the sawmill. Storage time depends on species, thickness, and project timeline.
With softwoods, such as pine and poplar, we can put the lumber in the kiln right away and have it ready as flooring or paneling in under two weeks. With hardwoods, especially white oak, we prefer to store and air dry it for at least four months before putting it in the kiln.
Storage fees are a fixed rate of $12.50 per pallet per week. One of our stickered pallets typically holds 800-1200 board feet. We have clients who have us store single pallets (lumber derived from one tree) and others who are building homes and send us all the trees from their homesite (15+ pallets).
