Our journey with the old man started in January of 2021. He took care of both of my girls and countless ones before that.

He made his way to our place April 2022 with his best friend Jay. He continued to love my girls well and began to teach me what it means to love a horse and care for them as they age.

By 2023, he became fully retired and we were having talks about if it was time.

He scoffed at those questions and probably would have for years to come.

He never demanded attention. He never asked for much. He quietly breathed a little too heavy. Or stood in the shade not really sweating anymore. Hanging out in the barn by the fan because he just couldn’t take the heat to graze with everyone else midday.

Because he was the best horse I’ve ever met, we decided to give him a peaceful goodbye this morning. One with a full belly and a cool breeze.

It was not an easy decision.

There have and will be tears for a while when we think of him.

If you know me at all, you know I am fully committed to being a good steward of those we’ve been given. And we were to Casey and will continue to be to those He’s entrusted to us.

It was his time. We are all at peace with our decision. There will never be another horse like Casey. But I sure do hope to meet another one one day soon.

He began his journey here with his best bud Jay and ended it with Jay saying his final goodbye with a nudge and a sniff. (missed the pic), he knew.

Say a prayer for us as we grieve and heal. And for his sidekick Sully too. He will miss him the most.

We are so thankful and grateful for the time we were gifted with him. Rest easy old man.

Dropped a pretty penny on Jay today 😭

Despite prayers and supporting him best we could, his breathing is atrocious.

The consequences of heaves.

Here’s some heaves info for those who aren’t familiar…

I get a text from my girl saying Faith is covered in mud.

Ok that’s normal.

She’s like, no. She looks like a chocolate covered strawberry.
🤣🤣🤣

Noted.

I’d say more chocolate covered zebra haha.

It was moving day for our D’uccles!

Our lone rooster took a field trip to Nanna and Papas for a bit. He’s just way bigger than the babies and they may seem to never catch up. And the chicks smell in our man child’s bathroom was too much for him 😜

So Small Fry (aka Duck) is on a staycation until further notice.

The babies have flown the coop and moved into the main house outside. Of course it sprinkled right after but no chickens were harmed in the making of this video 🤣

The babies have already been scratching so I think they will enjoy the new living quarters. The poor Rooster was apparently not the one keeping the grass down! The ladies we lost were!

It seems we may have two girls and another rooster. But they are still growing. Katniss, Pippy and Chicken Little are doing great!

5 weeks old this week!!!

Looking for some fun in the sun for your animal loving kiddos this summer?!

Reach out!

A horsemanship on your kids age level might just be what they need!

Today was a beautifully hot day to share our herd with friends!

They got to meet baby Jetta and give Faith a bath with us!

Then Rusty offered his time providing laps😉

If you’d like a gentle intro to horses, give us a shout! It’s become quite our speciality!
