Protect your RainSoft system from freezing weather!
Any time freezing weather is expected – please take these preventative steps early to protect your RainSoft system!
Leave a faucet running (a drip is not always enough- use a small, steady stream from the faucet farthest from the main) if freezing weather is expected.
“Cover & Smother” any exposed pipes if freezing weather is expected.
Outside installations should already have the equipment and pipes covered with an insulated box. If you need one, call us immediately – we sell them at cost ($400).
Inside installations may have pipes outside that need additional protection in freezing weather, particularly where they turn 90 degrees. We recommend ‘heat tape’ sold at The Home Depot (starting at $27). Plug it in, wrap it around the insulation (don’t remove the insulation), then cover it with blankets and enclose it in a shelter to ‘hold’ the warmth in. An inexpensive Styrofoam cooler cut to fit and taped on works.
Garage &/or well house installations may also need the equipment further protected, particularly in unheated locations that aren’t against a heated wall. We recommend that you ‘cover and smother’ the entire system in blankets -- a heated blanket if possible. You might want to place a space heater NEAR, but NOT TOUCHING the equipment, blankets, or anything else!
If you HAVE FROZEN PIPES: stop what you’re doing and begin the above procedures immediately. It could take several hours or half a day to ‘unthaw’ AFTER you’ve added heat tape and ‘covered and smothered’.
It is your responsibility to protect your system from freezing. Temperatures below freezing are unusual for this area, but if they’re expected -- you will need to take the extra measures above, particularly if they remain below freezing for a couple days. Damages, labor charges and expenses from freezing are not covered under your Warranty or Service Policy, that’s why we’re reminding you with this notice, when you call, when our service techs are out, by postcard, letter and/or email. You’ve invested in an excellent system to protect your home and family, now your system needs you to protect it from freezing weather.
