ABCDXYZ! We saved the best for last. Westside Power Couples- Joel and Missy; Kole and Cassandra, ventured to Zivio on Wealthy Street. Five stars. A round of cocktails for the table to start - Zivio’s old fashioned; midnight in Michigan; Fallen Leaf with whiskey, and a Cabernet. And Feta Fried Shrooms to start. Cassandra had the Fiery Feta handheld with jalapeños- she’s spicy; Kole and Joel had the Cevapi, which invokes memories of the festival of the arts back in the good ole days; and Missy had the Beef Stroganoff. If that wasn’t enough… we had to share a slice of the Nutella cheesecake! Everything was amazing, especially the good times had with great friends!

Y? Yes! Yesterdog!! Joel, Missy, Alison and Franky braved the elements on this blustery day and visited the iconic Yesterdog in Eastown and WOW! Talk about a Grand Rapids classic! These legendary hotdogs have been a local favorite since 1976, and after tasting one, it’s easy to see why. Owner, Pat, shared that there are many events planned to celebrate its 50 year anniversary.

From the chili and melty cheese on the Cheddar Dog to the retro-vibe interior filled with vintage signs and an old-school jukebox, it’s more than just a meal, it’s an experience.

Pro-tip: bring cash (they keep it old school), grab your dog, and soak in the history. Whether you’re a lifelong local or just visiting GR, Yesterdog is a MUST-try.

“X” is at MeXo on this cold evening! It was soooo good! To start off the fiesta, Joel ordered a Pacifico beer and Missy enjoyed a Tamarindo (Mezcal, apricot liquor, ginger liquor, tamarind jam, lime juice, chili salt). The MeXo Queso Fundido started us off. This is Mexican chorizo sausage, roasted corn, pablano peppers melted in Chihuahua and Oaxaca cheese with a side of Molcajete salsa. That salsa was not your typical salsa. It has a deep smokey flavor - tasty. Still sipping on that Tamarind, our entrees were next…Placed in front of Joel was pork carnitas - citrus and sweet braised - deconstructed tacos. And Missy enjoyed Caldo de Piedra (seafood, calabacita, chayote, tomato, cilantro, and onion in a guajillo broth, and epazote. Cooked with a scorching stone.) Perfect for a cold, snowy night! And as if that wasn’t enough, we topped it off with Goat Cheese Churros. Definitely one of the top meals we’ve had. We love trying new things and MeXo did not disappoint.

Ironically, and we didn’t know until we were done eating, British influencers, Josh and Jase ( ) had just been there (like we missed them by about 30 minutes) and posted about their amazing meal. Full transparency, Missy had no idea who they are, until Joel told her. If you don’t know who they are, look them up and follow them on social media!
