Faroese legend says Iceland sent the pair to drag these islands back home. They worked all night, the sun came up before they finished, and both turned to stone right there off the north coast. They have not moved since.

The Royal Mile hands you something new every twenty feet during the Fringe. Today it was a guy with a guitar working through A Day In The Life, and half the street just stopped walking to listen.

That is not a harbor. It is a crack in the island.

Gjógv sits at the north end of Eysturoy, and the entire village is built around a natural sea gorge that runs a couple hundred meters inland. For generations boats were hauled up those wooden rails and stone steps by hand, because there was no other way in or out by water.

We stood at the top of the steps a long time. The photo does not carry the scale.

Every Maker's Mark bottle you buy at the distillery, you can dip yourself. Apron, gloves, goggles, and then straight into the wax. 23 bottles a minute if you're a pro. We were... not that fast.
