In the very early morning hours of Friday, July 31st, with his wife by his side, Donald was called home.

During his months-long fight with anaplastic thyroid cancer, his doctors were amazed by his tenacity and humor. His strength and loyalty will be remembered by his family, friends, and everyone with the joy of meeting him, and he will be greatly missed.

No amount of preparation, bracing yourself, or "planning for the worst" can prevent the pain that comes with such a loss. Please keep Donald's wife, Jen; the Pahl and Weston families; the Granite Community; and all of Donald's dearest friends in your thoughts. Customers and fellow vendors poured out their love and support at our farmer's markets all weekend and we are grateful for that. Arrangements have been made to bring this community together to share memories and celebrate his life.

Our community packed Oscar's Ale House and piled on their love and support, and the feelings piled on as well! "Grateful," "amazed," "overwhelmed (in a good way)" and more were all feelings expressed at some point by members of the Pahl and Weston families during the fundraiser to support Jen and Donald in Donald's fight against anaplastic thyroid cancer. These photos barely capture a fraction of the attendance at this event throughout the day. The support and encouragement came at a great time and has been so valuable over the past week.

The silent auction alone raised $6,640 with an additional $1,300 in cash donations. Though we’re still waiting to receive the final tally on the restaurant percentage, we are certain that every penny raised will benefit Donald, Jen and Little Donald with medical invoices, monthly bills and day-to-day living expenses. The final photo in this slideshow was taken during the fundraiser where so many loved ones joined in on the fun "DONning" a fake mustache, paying homage to the facial hair that had always been Donald's signature 'stache before chemo. With every high comes a low, as this week has been a tough one for Donald. Your prayers and support are as valuable as ever!

From Pahl's Farm, to everyone who played a role in this event, thank you.

This event is almost here!

If you havent heard, on Wednesday 7/22 there is an all-day fundraiser and silent auction at Oscar's Alehouse Woodstock to support some of the best people on this planet. Jen Pahl and Donald Weston are in the fight of their lives and need our support more than ever.

10% of all food sales (yes, this includes bar and take out!) go directly to this fight against Anaplastic Thyroid Cancer. Anddd 100% of silent auction proceeds go to them too!

Oscars Aleshouse in Woodstock is open 11:30am-10pm. Who says you can’t have a burger for brunch? You could just pick up your lunch! And don’t be shy, order that dessert!!

It will be a great day supporting our people and rallying for a great cause. We hope to see you there. Interested in helping in other ways? Share this post. See the link in our bio to donate directly. Or, as always, stop by the farmers markets to pick up veggies or share well wishes!

Garlic scapes, the curly, edible stems of the garlic flower are prized for their garlic-y (duh!), vegetal flavor. They're hyper-seasonal, harvested only when the garlic needs it in early summer. And we think they're kinda cute!

You can eat scapes raw, cooked, or pickled! They're really a special treat, ready for your creative spark. The most common use we hear about is pesto.

For a simple pesto: In a food processor combine garlic scapes, parmesan cheese, some type of nut (like pine nuts or walnuts), basil, lemon juice, and salt. Once that's combined, slowly add some olive oil, and you're ready to enjoy your garlic scape pesto on pasta, with toast, spread on savory pastries, or stirred into other recipes.

Ours were picked today (Friday) with some help from our resident garlic expert (see photos). Catch us early at to get your hands on some of these!
