We’ve been busy! Anyone who knows Christie knows she is obsessed with dying Lincoln locks. The dye pot hasn’t had a chance to cool but there’s a fresh batch of locks waiting for the perfect project in our Etsy shop! Plus an Autumnal Lincoln wreath, vegan pelt, dryer balls, and natural colored roving and batts!

What’s for dinner? Lamb shanks!

No one in this family enjoys cooking, but this is an impressive meal with only a little effort!

Sear the shanks in olive oil and butter and put them in the slow cooker. (No instapot here!) Cut up some onion and sauté for a bit. Add some garlic, then deglaze with red w**e. Add a little beef broth and tomato paste and pour over the shanks. Throw in fresh thyme and rosemary if you have it. Turn the crock pot on low. (Very important to turn it ON. 🫣😂) Go do something else for 6-8 hours and then serve!

We enjoyed our shanks with roasted Parmesan new potatoes and a fancy variety of grilled eggplant that we picked up at our local farmers market.

A few years ago, E. Anderson 20-8 was sold to Hershey Land & Livestock as a bred ewe. The resulting lamb was named Campion Natural Colored Ram at the 2025 Ohio State Fair Junior Show.

In the fall of 2025, 20-8 again produced a ram who was named Champion Natural Colored Ram at the 2026 Ohio State Fair Junior Show. He then was chosen as Reserve Supreme Ram overall breeds at the conclusion of the Ohio State Fair Junior Show! Congratulations Brooke! 🎉

20-8 also dammed the Champion Natural Colored Ewe at the 2023 California State Fair, who was also Champion Natural Colored Medium Ewe at the Black Sheep Gathering that year!

While is it fun to hang a banner for yourself, it brings us tremendous joy to see our sheep go to work for other flocks and produce winners!

If someone tells you wool is bad for the environment because of sheep methane, they're only telling you half the story.

Yes, sheep produce methane. That's true. But here's the part they leave out:

Roughly 50% of wool's weight is biogenic carbon. This is carbon that's part of the natural carbon cycle — not fossil fuel carbon. The sheep converts grass (which pulls CO2 from the atmosphere) into fibre. That fibre then stores carbon. The carbon is just cycling through nature, not accumulating in the atmosphere.

Compare that to synthetics: every synthetic garment requires petroleum extraction, chemical processing, and manufacturing energy. That's new carbon being added to the atmosphere — carbon that's been locked underground for millions of years.

Wool is renewable. The carbon cycle regenerates every year. Synthetics are extractive. The carbon is permanent.

Now, is sheep farming perfect? No. Modern agriculture has challenges. But the solution isn't to switch to synthetics — it's to support better sheep farming. Farming that focuses on land management, animal welfare, and sustainable practices.

The brands and farmers doing this well aren't hiding from the carbon conversation. They're leading it. Because they know that premium wool production can actually be better for the environment than the alternative.

When you choose wool, you're choosing to support farmers who are thinking about these things. You're choosing to be part of the solution, not the problem.
