We had such a great week at the Will County Fair! We are incredibly blessed as a family and so proud of our kids. Colten, Kaden, and Ella each won their showmanship division, with Emma taking second in Peewee right behind her sister.

Awards are nice, but they aren’t what we enjoy most about the fair. For us, it’s about spending time together as a family and catching up with all the friends we’ve made there.

We’re still learning, and we’ve been fortunate to meet so many great people with years of experience who are always willing to answer questions, offer advice, and help our kids succeed. We’re truly thankful for them.

We also had some great conversations with families who came through the fair. If you’ve never brought your family to a county fair, I highly suggest it.

We had a great time at the Cullom Fair! Ruby brought home Junior Champion, and we couldn’t be prouder.

We’re especially proud of all the time, hard work, and dedication our kids have put into her. We’re also incredibly thankful for the friends who have shared their advice, encouragement, and support along the way.

Into the calving pen she goes! Patches is due Sunday with her second calf. She went a day early with her first pregnancy. When do you think this calf is coming?

Keeping dairy cattle involves a lot more than just feeding and milking cows. We regularly use blood testing to confirm pregnancies and screen our herd for disease. Maintaining a healthy, disease-free herd is especially important when consuming raw milk.

Blood is drawn from the coccygeal vein, located under the cow or heifer’s tail, and then sent to a laboratory for testing.

Colten tried his hand at drawing blood this time and was successful on his first try! He’s taking on more and more responsibilities with the management of our small herd. We’ve very proud of him.
