Today marks one week since the 4theKids Livestock Auction at our JoCo fair!

What a season! August's primary market goat, Blackjack, came out of Smith Family Livestock's beautiful herd and weighed in at 101lbs making the heavy weight division.

Huge thank you to Evergreen Properties, Inc. Grants Pass Rentals for supporting this hard working boy by purchasing Blackjack! He's already dreaming and making plans for next year's project!

Day 3! Today was all about what a homestead can produce and what can be grown or raised no matter where you live!
We did a blind taste test of goat and cow milk and the kids were shocked to discover that 14 of them thought they were drinking cow milk, and it was goat!

They learned how to sustainably harvest herbs, dry them, and make Italian seasoning blends.

Then they made homemade pasta so they can make spaghetti with their pasta and Italian seasoning at home!

We took care of our gardens, and added the pollinator watering cups from yesterday.

Time to rest up for day 4!

Day 2 at Farm Camp!

Today we learned all about beneficial and harmful insects in the garden and what to do about them! We went on scavenger hunts, built bug hotels to attract good bugs to our gardens, tried to "eat like a bug", created pollinator watering cups from clay, and more!

Farm Camp Families! Today your camper decorated their own garden box, learned about proper drainage, soil health, what nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium do for our plants, how to properly plant starts & seeds, and many many other things as we worked with all the animals!

Your campers will be adding things to their garden each day and learning how to properly care for them before bringing them home on Friday!

Things to remember:
🚘 drop off and pick up are at the same lotion this year at 1:30pm
💦 We will be playing water games most days so towels are recommended! (If your camper wants one)
🐐Friday - plan to stay a bit at pick up for our Livestock show where your kids will show you how they've learned to handle the animals!

The lesser seen side of Farm Camp! Today we're prepping ALL the lesson plans and printables for our camp that starts on Monday.
It's a labor of love, and we're happy to do it!

It's time for these sweet girls to move to a new pasture!

Nigerian Dwarf Doelings
Born 4/3/2026
Birth weight 4.3lbs and 4.6lbs

These dam raised girls are from fantastic milk lines with high butter fat content.

Their dam is an easy kidder and milker that comes from Twin Pears lines.

Their registered sire is beautiful, large, and sweet as can be.

Both are disbudded and well handled by our kids. Ready to go at any time!

Bee's wax wraps! If you brought one home today here's the instructions to finish them.
Bake on parchment at 300° for 5 or so minutes or just until the wax re melts and distributes evenly. While it's still warm, lift it off the parchment and wave it until it dries (this happens quickly)

To clean, rinse it until cold water
Store folded in a drawer
