At the Honey Harvest Festival 2026, we love the opportunity to be able to recognize women (age 75 and older, with a few exceptions) who have made a significant contribution to the lives of others and who have inspired others to be their best.

Happy Pioneer Day!

Clark Historic Farm's rich pioneer history began when Grantsville's first permanent pioneer settler, James McBride, homesteaded the land. The McBrides had endured much hardship before making it to Utah. James' father, Thomas, had been killed at the Haun's Mill Masacre, and when the first wave of pioneers moved west in 1847, the McBrides stayed behind to save money for provisions to make the trip. They, along with the family of his brother in -law, Harrison Severe, made the journey a few years later and arrived in Grantsville (then Willow Springs) in October1850. James' autobiography shares how he planted apple orchards and built a small home on his farm.

As they struggled to establish a town, new groups of pioneer immigrants, mostly from England early on, were sent to build the new town. In 1862, a group.of Swedish immigrants arrived in Grantsville. Among them were teenagers, Charles L. Anderson and Ellen Okleberry, who later married and eventually purchased the land of Clark Historic Farm from McBrides. The Andersons built the historic barns that still stand today, over 125-145 years later.

We pay tribute to these pioneers who worked hard, sacrificed and built the town of Grantsville and the beautiful Clark Historic Farm.
