The farther people get from their food, the stranger this looks.

Some people see a chicken.

We see weeks of early mornings, feed buckets, fresh water, moving pens, checking on birds, teaching kids responsibility, and trusting the process.

Modern life hides the story of our food.

Homesteading teaches it.

This lifestyle isn’t always the easiest, but it’s one of the most rewarding.

There is something deeply satisfying about pulling a chicken from the freezer and knowing every step of the journey that brought it to your table.

That’s more than food.

That’s a life skill.
That’s food security.
That’s a connection to something most of the world has forgotten.

The real reason homeschooling triggers some people and fascinates others?
It’s proof the system was never required.
Not for learning.
Not for socialization.
Not for raising capable, successful kids.
Some people see homeschool families and think:
“Wait… there’s another way?”
Others see them and feel threatened because it challenges what they’ve always believed.
When someone steps outside the box and thrives, it forces everyone else to decide:
Was the box ever necessary?

My girls were up before most people hit snooze.

6 AM. Boots on. Catching chickens. Loading crates.

No fear. No complaining. Just getting the job done.

They’ve raised these birds from tiny chicks to butcher day and take pride in every step of the process.

In a world where most kids think food comes from a grocery store shelf, these girls know exactly where their dinner comes from.

They’ve fed them, watered them, moved them to pasture, checked on them daily, and now they’re helping finish what they started.

This isn’t about raising chickens.

It’s about raising capable kids.

Kids who aren’t afraid of hard work.
Kids who understand responsibility.
Kids who know that good food doesn’t magically appear.
Kids who take pride in contributing to the family.

And honestly?

Watching them confidently do work that many adults are uncomfortable with makes this homestead mama pretty proud.

Farm kids are built different. ❤️

The moment we’ve all been waiting for… ❤️💍

She thought they were just taking pictures and feeding the bison.

Instead, she got the surprise of a lifetime.

And two lives changed forever. ❤️

What started as a simple farm stay became the beginning of their forever, and out of all the places they could have chosen, they picked our farm as the backdrop for one of the biggest moments of their lives.

It was such an honor to help pull off the surprise and witness the joy that followed. Thank you for letting us be a small part of your story.

Congratulations to the happy couple! We’re praying God’s blessings over your future together and wishing you a lifetime of love and happiness. ❤️🦬💍

A guest arrived at the farm this weekend and quietly pulled me aside.

“I want to propose tonight. Can you help me?”

A few hours later, we were setting up a hidden camera, coordinating the perfect location, and helping create a memory they’ll never forget.

Sometimes farm hosting turns into something much more special than we ever expected. ❤️

Part 2: The proposal. 💍

It might be controversial, but this mom is not doing everyone’s laundry. 😅

My kids start learning to do their own laundry around age 4 and by the time they’re teenagers, they’re pros.

Why?

Because laundry isn’t just a chore, it’s a life skill.

I’d rather spend a few years teaching them how to sort, wash, dry, fold, and put away their clothes than spend the next 18 years doing it all myself.

Plus, it teaches responsibility, time management, and ownership.

And if someone wakes up one morning with no clean underwear? Well… they learn real fast that laundry doesn’t magically happen. 😂

My goal isn’t to raise kids who need me for everything.
My goal is to raise capable adults who know how to take care of themselves, contribute to a household, and leave home confident in the everyday skills life requires.

One less task on my plate.
One more life skill in theirs. 💪

Call me a 90s mom, but I don’t think childhood needs to be constantly entertained. A sprinkler in the yard.
Popsicles dripping down little arms. An old slide turned into a homemade slip-and-slide. Bare feet, sunshine, and a whole lot of imagination.
Somewhere along the way, we started believing summer had to be packed with expensive vacations, elaborate activities, and a calendar so full there’s barely room to breathe.
But some of my favorite childhood memories cost almost nothing.
Just freedom.
Fresh air.
And enough time to get bored and figure out something fun to do.
Turns out kids don’t need a perfect summer.
They just need a childhood. ☀️🍦💦
