While we did not exhibit at the State Fair this year, Kottke Valley was still well-represented by a handful of outstanding youth exhibitors.

Paislee and Nash Lozensky showed absolute class and a passion for their animals, and they were rewarded for it with a clean sweep of Herdsman awards in Open Class and Youth Show. Paislee also was Reserve Champion Intermediate Showman in the Youth Show.

Willow Miller rocked it, too, achieving Grand Champion Junior Showman with none other than GCH Kottke Valley Flurry. Flurry was Grand Champion Senior Recorded Grade in the ADGA Show. Flurry won me my first ADGA Rosette back in 2020, then won me my 100th a few years later. As a six-year-old, she's still winning, now for Willow.

Flurry's offspring did quite well for Paislee and Nash:

Kottke Valley OMT Frozen (GCH Flurry × Titanite) was RGCH Senior Alpine in the ADGA Show as a yearling.

Kottke Valley Orchid (Lavender × Revere) was GCH Junior Alpine in the ADGA Show.

Kottke Valley Black Jack (Frozen × Revere) was Overall Champion Buck in the Youth Show, and Champion Alpine Buck in the Open Show.

The best part about all of these wins is that it was these kids' FIRST time showing at the State Fair. I'm very excited to watch these Youth and their herds grow.

The quality of dairy goats in improving in ND, and there's a lot of really bright youth up-and-coming. We really enjoy helping youth get started with their herds and helping them learn along the way.

Enough time has passed that I feel I can share the devastating news. A few weeks ago, we unexpectedly lost our Senior Herdsire, CH Redwood Hills Reward Freedom. This is just a gut-punch, and has really been just one piece that has made 2026 a challenging year.

Freedom was a handsome, well-mannered buck whose impact on the herd will not soon be forgotten. After having to cancel the first planned show of the year, we finally made it down to Fargo for the Red River Valley Fair back on July 4th.

Freedom's daughter, FF Kottke Valley Freedom Velocity, was GCH over some finished champions and 20+ Senior Alpines. Another daughter, Kottke Valley Freedom Mary Lou, was 2×GCH Recorded Grade.

Otherwise, the star of the show was CH Kottke Valley OMT Frosty, who was the Champion Challenger winner over several beautiful does (including Velocity), then going on to win Best in Show under judge Jay Rudolph. I was also very pleased with the kids' performance, as all 4 were at or near the top of every class, as some of the youngest kids there, not to mention how well they behaved.

Big thank you to Justin and Hevin for all of your help down in Fargo!

For the first time in nearly a decade, the does will not be in attendance at the North Dakota State Fair. However, we will be running the ADGA show (so no time to show or prep does anyways) and I'm looking forward to seeing some familiar faces. Good luck to everyone showing there this coming week!

After cutting numbers from 40 down to 30 (thanks to an exodus of buck kids), I'm now faced with the decisions of doe reductions. Every year these decisions get more difficult, this year has been especially tough, but that is a good thing for those of you waiting for does!

In the meantime, two more does will kid in the near future to add to my collection.

Phase 1 of kidding season is a wrap. The best part is 24 kids were born, all live and healthy. A late run of doe kids helped improve the ratio, which settled at 9 does to 15 bucks.

While there's many very nice buck kids, this one sure catches my eye. Not too shabby for a week old.

It is after midnight and I'm in the midst of the DUMBEST kidding in herd history. Good thing I have my stress-relief baseball bat (not used on goats).
