Here are a handful of my daylily seedlings from this year’s hybridizing beds, including a few that might be 2026 Bittersweet Farm introductions. Every day brings new surprises as the newest seedlings reveal themselves — it’s the best part of July, when the seedlings are at their peak. Let me know what catches your eye. It can be really helpful to have opinions outside of my own. Like poems, daylilies benefit from having other eyes on them. Enjoy!

Time to plant this year’s daylily seeds! Once they’re big and strong enough, they will go into the seedling beds outside. For now, they’ll enjoy the warmth of the tropical greenhouse while the last remnants of our Ohio winter rages on outside.

No wonder I spent yesterday on the couch after flying home from AWP— I realized I enjoyed the company of at least 700% more people in only three days in Kansas City than I have in the past four months here in beautiful Granville, Ohio, where if I see three people a week it’s kind of startling. That said, yay, poetry!! I love my friends and I’m so happy to have spent these hours with them. I’m going to go lie down again now…..

Bittersweet Farm is enjoying its spring flush of peonies, Russian Bearded and Siberian iris, pelargonium, clematis, early roses and all of the new bright leaves of the hostas and Japanese maples. It’s a gorgeous time of year to be here.
