Chubby Dog Farm LLC

Chubby Dog Farm LLC We are a growing farm in deep east Texas working on the goal of self-sustainability.

Our current products are fresh eggs, vegetables, boer meat goats, and non-soy/non-GMO fed mangalitsa-heritage cross pigs. We started this lifestyle due to a dissatisfaction with the commercial agriculture system. Our belief is that we can care for our food from conception to the table, feeling morally justified in eating every day, as well as improving the flavor of the food... for us and our neighbors.

Thank you from !🙏🏼🐖🧡

We’ve enjoyed this ride, and it’s mostly because of you.

We’ve made so many friends along this farm journey and learned about cooking and preservation and foraging from some of the most talented chefs in the biz.

We’ve collaborated with fellow farmers and shared our successes and failures.

Thank you all for your friendships and encouragement, which kept us going on the tough days.

Best wishes to all of our people! We will continue to follow your journeys from afar.

Follow us as civilians for our adventure into grandparenthood living in a new state... and all of the shenanigans that will come with it.

Much love, Karyn & Calvin

Today... chasing chickens.

Calvin shot a possum in the hen house the other night.

So without a guardian dog out there, the chickens have scattered to the wind...

.. except the ones that p**p on my porch.

So we took the fishing nets into the goat paddock to hunt chickens to send home with Dez this afternoon.

Between finishing planting garden this morning and chasing chickens, I got over double my step goal for the day.

And is gonna be 11 chickens richer.

Today is just too lovely not to go ahead and plant garden, even after tackling pigs.

Calvin’s planting rows of lady peas for ground cover...

.. and I’m planting long beans that Calvin harvested last year around the garden perimeter.

We’re not sure if anyone will actually benefit from the garden produce, but adding nutrients to the soil and lush green to the garden is our aim.

Plus the long beans are pretty as they climb the fence... for anyone looking at the property.

Chasing pigs

Calvin, Daniel of Driftwood Meadows & I loaded the breeders this morning in record time, including Apollo, Brawn & Paté.

We pulled the trailer into the garden to load the garden growers for Dez to pick up tomorrow.

But even with fresh greens & feed, only 3/8 would load themselves at a time.

So Calvin & I chased the other 5 with fishing nets, which weren’t quite sufficient since they’ve gotten so big.

Then we’d wrestle them to the trailer & herd them into the front compartment.

We’re glad Daniel wasn’t here to witness the shenanigans that is “the chasing of the pigs”. They’ll know soon enough. 😂🐷🙌🏼

All by 10:30am.

Now we can plant some ground cover in the garden.

Maybe tomorrow.

2010 Ford F250 V10 2WD

~ 150k miles

Has some minor body damage from when I bumped a tree when I jackknifed on our slippery dirt road with the livestock trailer. New headlight from that.

This workhorse got regular tuneups and oil changes and is a reliable old gal.

Arya, guardian now of the goats

It happened very quickly... the rehoming.

We ripped off the bandaid, shed a few tears, but we know she will be so much happier on a farm than in town.

Thanks, Janelle, for giving her a chance! We’d love to see updates from time to time on her progress. And thanks for the honey!🙏🏼🍯🧡

UPDATE: Adopted!!!🎉

Farm friends: LGD needs working home.

We’ve made the incredibly tough decision to rehome Arya to a working farm before we move.

During her recovery from foot surgery, it has become clear that she is not ready for life as a townie dog.

She needs a job, and she most certainly does NOT like to be groomed or bandaged.

Excellent around other dogs and kids... unless you’re trying to groom or bandage her. 😉

She is a Great Pyrenees Maremma cross born 06/06/2016. She had a foot injury before we brought her home that never healed correctly, so we just had a toe amputated to help ease that pressure.

We also had her dewclaws removed while she was under because she makes it difficult to cut her toenails which circled back into her skin.

She’s recovering nicely, and she gets her stitches out tomorrow.

She’s an excellent guardian of the skies, good around chickens and goats and pigs.

We want her to go to a place where she can work hard and still get lots of love from her people, as that’s what she has become accustomed to.

DM if you’re interested.

Pork sugo over gluten-free penne pasta

Both of us are fully on board for Noom.

So much that we even measured our servings.

If you’re anything like us, over time your servings get larger as you eyeball them.

This is a sugo made from lots of veggies including spinach, zucchini, onions, carrots and celery, as well as the last bit of pork butt leftover from the weekend.

.. add a li’l fish sauce, homemade tomato paste and red wine, and you’ve got a quick meal with lots of flavor developed.

Mindfully adding more “green” zone foods and less meat.
