Dahlia Love!
This is my first year growing a substantial amount of dahlia's and I have learned a lot from it, and I will be doing things a little differently next year. Apparently, dahlias are the chicken of the flower world because absolutely everything loves to eat them. They have a short vase life, but I see the love for them because they come in so many shapes and colors that are absolutely beautiful. Dahlias shouldn't be cut until fully open but by that time they are nibbled. Bagging them is not full proof but it does seem to help.
I am a sucker and I won't cut a flower if I see something enjoying it, so this adorable little frog saved this flower to live another day.

Supervision!
Sending a shout out to my summer supervisors! They have kept an eye on me this summer and have done more than their fair share of helping as well! Foxy turned 1 year old around June and Finn will be 1 this month. This dynamic duo has brought fun and frustration to this year's endeavors!

Where's Waldo
They come in groups of 6 or 7 and they are in the garden often, but I never seem to be ready to take a picture when they are around, they also seem a little camera shy. They are so bright and happy I thought I would share a bad photo, and you can see if you can spot the gold finch. They really seem to love the late season zinnias.

Tomato Damage
Per the norm I have way too many tomatoes. I am really going to try and plant a more reasonable amount next year, so everyone doesn't run when they see me because I have 5lbs of tomatoes I am trying to pawn off. Since I don't seem able to reign in my tomato planting, I don't worry too much about tomato hornworms. I don't make any attempt to remove them even though they strip a plant in the flash of an eye. I may feel differently if I can ever hit the appropriate growing amount but for now, I let them do their worst unchecked. They turn into the hawk moth which I think is pretty cool

Late Season Lovelies
If you are not allergic to bees, Caryopteris is a great late season option. I love the soft purple color. Mine has bees of every kind on it and you can hear the plant humming as you walk by there is so much life on it.
Beggartick is a sometimes-ornery native that is currently blooming and providing a beautiful yellow to roadsides and fields.

While most summer flowers are coming to an end. Gomphrena is still flowering, this can be a little hard to keep up with, so Finn helps with deadheading. 😅

I won’t be at the Gravette Farmers Market tomorrow, but you should still check them out. They have a great market, anchored by Patton Family Farms.

The dark red Rip City Dahlia and the beautiful white lisianthus are what I’m enjoying this week. Let me know if either of these interest you.

I missed an opportunity to engage with a lovely young lady at the Gravette Farmers Market on Saturday. She was there making purchases from vendors with her dollar coins. I was distracted and I didn't take the time I should have to speak with her. What an awesome thing for a young person to do with their time and money. Instead of spending her money on the million other things she could have chosen, she chose to support local farmers and businesses. I think that is awesome and I think it is pretty awesome that Mom (I am guessing) brought her out to encourage her efforts. I just want to say you were recognized and appreciated! If you know these nice folks, please share my thanks.

I thought I would share a picture of my favorite sunflower (Lemonade) which just opened its first bloom. These things are fun and fuzzy and generally just make you feel happy, like seeing a thoughtful young person!
