What in the world is going on at Small Batch? Well, this year has been a transition for us. It has taken some time with lots of cleanup and preparing new beds and there's still much more to do, but we've been able to bring the farm to us instead of having to commute to the farm to work. One of the most exciting aspects greater accessibility to the farm is the addition of our apiary. Thanks for your continued support of your local growers!

$15 gets you a pass for everyone in your car! Free lunch at one of the farms, plus special on-site fresh products available for personal purchase along the route. Tours of the farms, cooking demos, visiting the animals... what more could you ask for such a small ticket price! Or $25 also gets you the S.W. Virginia tour the following Saturday. Go meet the friendly folks growing food in our region!

Things are finally coming along at the farm after a late start due to the late cold weather. Now trying to manage everything between days and days of rain! The creek by the garden flooded across the road, but fortunately no flooding in the garden. Everything looking great!

When I was a kid growing up on the farm, we had beehives under these pear trees. It was a safe place, undisturbed by cattle, bush hog, or kids trekking through the field. The hives have long been gone from the farm, but the spot on the hillside remains, quietly pushing the pears taller over the years. A little over four years ago, I scattered my brother’s ashes under the guardian trees that overlook the entirety of the farm. Today I installed the home for a new generation of bees who I hope will help me work the land--perhaps they will also provide a little entertainment for all creatures who pause here to rest.

Finally got the greenhouse moved over the weekend. We opted to split it in two pieces instead of completely dismantling it. Now to put it back together in its new location!
