We HATE to do this but the infamous Annie (the Trailbirds greeting committee of one) is up for debate!
Chestnut mare, recognized as a “miniature horse” but she’s closer to pony sized. Not sure of hands but can acquire that info if it’s absolutely necessary. Current on her annual (negative coggins). Due for her 3 month farrier service October 1st (barefoot). About 400-450 pounds, approximately 6 years old (though the vet suspects about a year younger). She’s eager to learn but if you’re soft, she’ll take advantage and act spicy about the task.
Her rehoming condition is a firm 1K.
I LOVE her menacing quirks but the votes are in and I’m heavily out-voted on the pros vs. cons as it pertains to the big picture. Our particular circumstances are not suited to have her in the mix, but not for lack of trying and numerous adjustments to accommodate her being a part of it all. As it sits, she’s essentially a goofy, friendly, quirky, interactive ornament.
Pros: Will enthusiastically greet you in our out of the fence (no feed or treats necessary), Exceptionally easy catch, Loves having her halter put on, no issues on lead for anyone (even in the dark), has been annoyed with poultry crossing through her areas but never harmed them, gentle toward goats and other horses (that were larger than her), respects the fence, does OKAY for the farrier (for a pony), doesn’t crib, trusting of strange people but distrusting of strange animals which has been beneficial with foxes, snakes, and loose dogs that have considered coming onto the property, takes treats/snacks sweetly, Trailered well in the past but it’s been a few years.
*Bonus feature: I’m not pro enough to specifically describe it but she does have several different types of runs/trots that she does on her own accord, one of which is really stunning to watch as if she’d been taught how to do it (though VERY unlikely).
Cons: resource guards a fresh bucket of feed (will start kicking in the direction of other horses or people who don’t acknowledge her warnings), has never been ridden to our knowledge, nosey about tools, drinks, snacks, speakers, gloves, whatever may be brought into the field to accomplish a task (she will investigate and probably grab, especially beer…), is excitable about loud noises or big movements such as a tractor moving around but will bravely approach, investigate, then run laps to let off steam. Predictably could be an issue if she was being ridden at the time these spooky things occur. May need a float before long.
