We were thrilled to have Casey from Senator Mark's office ride along with us this week. Casey met our volunteers and saw our work in action! While making deliveries, Casey chatted with feeding assistance program staff to hear about the biggest challenges the community is facing. Thanks for joining us!

To "glean" is

to gather slowly and laboriously, bit by bit.

to gather food left behind after a harvest

to clear (a field, orchard, etc.) of leftover produce.

Berkshire Bounty began as a gleaning organization and this time of year, we stay close to our roots. Volunteers collected 700 lbs of the most beautiful peaches from a property owner last week for distribution to feeding assistance programs. Interested in joining?

We have two volunteer needs for next week-

Thursday, August 27th at 11am: South County Food Box Deliveries

We need 2-3 volunteers who can help with home deliveries on Thursdays. Boxes are picked up at Old Parish Church in Sheffield.

Friday, August 28th at 8am: 190 North Plain Road to Christian Assembly and Holding and Helping Hands in Pittsfield

We need a volunteer to pick up produce, eggs and cheese to the sites listed above. Volunteer must be able to lift 50 pounds. The Berkshire Bounty Toyota Sienna van is available for this route.

We plan to glean at Taft Farms on Wednesday, August 26th from 10-12pm. Please reply to this email Jenny at [email protected] if you want to join us! If you would like to glean corn and unable to help at that time, here is what you can do:

1. Email Jenny and list days and times that work best for you

2. Jenny will coordinate with Taft Farms for you to glean and provide containers and instructions for delivering to our cooler.

Thursday, August 27th from 8:30-10:30am

This is a one time need, but it can become weekly if you enjoy doing it.
If you can bend, and can lift 30 lbs, we'd love to have you volunteer at the Three Sisters Farm in Sheffield!
