By supporting local farmers and creators, we bring you quality you can trust: because quality starts close to home. 2J's opened its doors in 1986 and has been serving the Great Falls community as a locally owned and operated business ever since. We began as a wholesale produce company that transitioned into a natural food store to better meet the needs of our customers. We are committed to delivering the freshest products at the best possible prices. Whenever possible we source our products locally and organically. This allows us to work closely with farmers and ranchers in our area and to provide our customers with high quality products that are easily traced back to their origins. Whether its organic beef from Big Timber, organic flour from Fort Benton, fresh cherries from Flathead Lake, or organic goat cheese from the base of the Bridger mountains, we work hard to support our local Montana food providers whenever we can. In addition to our produce department and full-service butcher block we offer a wide variety of bulk foods, as well as an extensive selection of supplements and health and beauty products. At 2J's Fresh Market we encourage you to get to know your food and your food providers. Feel free to ask us about our products, make suggestions, or just let us know how we are doing. Apple u-picks, apple c***r, and, well, apple everything are about as synonymous with fall as pumpkins and colorful leaves.

So, you've likely noticed there are fewer fresh Montana apples this year, let alone apple activities.

Here's why:

This winter, Montana experienced its warmest January on record. With highs ranging from the mid-fifties to the upper sixties, many plants, including fruit trees, began waking early and producing buds.

When apples are in full bloom, they are highly temperature-sensitive. If the temperature drops to 28 degrees for 30 minutes while the trees are in bloom, you can expect to have almost no apples in the spring.

So when, a few months later in May, we had a late, severe frost, the trees were far enough into bloom that entire crops of fruit were lost.

Many of Montana's apple orchards lost over 90% of their crop.

That's why it's especially important that we show up for our Montana orchards this year!

You can still support apple farmers by:
- Going to any on-farm events
- Telling your friends and family about the crop loss
- Understanding any slight price increases
- Buying apples next year!

Buy Montana Apples is a great organization championing Montana's apple growers. They're an excellent resource for locating orchards near you and learning about (delicious) ways you can support them.
