Life at home doesn't stop while our fishermen are in Alaska. The animals still need to be cared for, the chores still need to be done, and the work keeps moving forward every single day.

Some days are long, dirty, and exhausting. But if you slow down and look around, there are reminders of why it's all worth it.

A horse grazing beneath a Montana Big Sky. Wildflowers tucked away in the pasture. The quiet moments that often go unnoticed.

These are the little rewards that come with this way of life. They remind us to pause, appreciate what we've been given, and find joy in the simple things—even on the hardest days.

Behind every fisherman is a family, a home, and a whole lot of work that happens long before the season begins.

Know Your Fisherman: Feeding the Crew

People often ask what goes into running a family seafood business. The answer? A whole lot more than catching fish.

While our fishermen are in Alaska, life keeps moving at home. Todd and I both work full-time jobs, manage CAST Fish Sales, and keep our little homestead running.

One of the biggest jobs belongs to Ava.

She's taken on raising our sheep and goats, and it's no small task. From hauling water and moving fences to checking on the animals every day, she's learned that caring for livestock takes commitment and consistency.

When the time comes, a few animals will go to market, but most are processed to provide high-quality, home-raised protein for our fishermen during the season. Long days on the beaches of Alaska require good food, and taking care of our crew starts long before they ever step on the boat.

It's one more way our family works together to support the people who make CAST Fish Sales possible.

Because behind every successful fishing season is a lot of work that happens long before the first net hits the water.

Know Your Fisherman: Behind the Scenes

While our fishermen are hard at work in Alaska, life doesn't slow down at home.

One project we've been tackling is planting trees and bushes to establish a windbreak around our property. It's definitely not our favorite job, but it's one of those investments that will pay off for years to come.

Ava has been a total trooper through it all—and as you can see, she's become quite the heavy lifter! 💪🌳

Building a business isn't just about the days on the water. It's also about the work that happens behind the scenes, the projects that keep moving forward, and the family that pitches in wherever they're needed.

We've been a little quiet lately, but for good reason—we've been planning something we're excited to share.

I've been promising to start our Know Your Fisherman series, and if I'm being honest, digital storytelling is a little outside my comfort zone. But every great story starts somewhere, so we're going to learn as we go.

Right now, our fishermen are hard at work in Alaska, so while they're on the water, we'll take you behind the scenes to show you everything that happens here while they're away. From preparing for the season to keeping things running back home, there's so much that goes into bringing wild-caught seafood from our family to your table.
