To no fault of his,Chili Pepper, our last mule foal out of our Registered Mammoth Jack Pepper and QH mare Sassy is looking for a new pasture. His older owner decided that he is too old to be working with a young mule. He has decided to do right by the young mule and sell him. Chili Pepper is a yearling John mule already gelded. He is good with feet, ears, loading and loves his scratches. If you are looking at adding a quality mule to your herd then take a look at this young mule. Great riding mule prospect and can double as pack mule when you need one.
Should mature 15-15.2H

I know its ears are a little short compared to most of my posts but this is all I got these days. She is as cute as a button even though the ears are horse ears. Less than 10 hrs old in these photos. Dam is Sassy, who has raised us some amazing mule foals and gave us our last mule foal out of Pepper before we lost him. This fillies Sire is a Gypsy Vanner. We haven’t picked a name yet.
We will be selling as a 2-1 or 3-1 package.

ASSOCIATED VETERINARY SERVICE

Spring is approaching and the days are starting to get longer, we know what that means around the barn—foaling season is almost here!

Many broodmares are entering their final months of pregnancy, and now is a great time to make sure everything is in place for a smooth and successful foaling season.

Pneumobort K (Equine Herpes Virus): Vaccinate at the 5th, 7th, and 9th months of pregnancy. Please call the stable at 406-727-9061 to schedule these vaccines.
Pre-Foaling Boosters (about 1 month before due date): 6-way vaccine and strangles.
Rabies: Recommended between foaling and breeding back.
Caslick: If you mare has a caslick, ensure you bring her in about 1 month prior to have it removed.
Time spring deworming about one month before foaling.

If your mare is due soon, now is the time to get your foaling plan ready.
Every mare is a little different, but common signs that foaling may be appraching include:
• Udder development and waxing of the teats
• Softening around the tailhead and relaxation of pelvic ligaments
• Increased restlessness, pacing, or lying down and getting up repeatedly
• Milk dripping or running (contact us if this happens before foaling as mares may be losing vital colostrum)

If your mare appears in distress, has been actively laboring for more than 30 minutes without a foal, or you notice anything abnormal (such as only one leg presenting or a red-bag delivery), contact us immediately.
Early intervention can make all the difference.

After the Foal Arrives: we like to remember the “1-2-3 rule” for newborn foals:
• Stand within 1 hour
• Nurse within 2 hours
• Pass the placenta within 3 hours
If any of these milestones aren’t met, please give us a call.
Our emergency line for after hours is: 406-868-5571

Looking Ahead to Breeding Season
While we’re welcoming new foals, it’s also time to start thinking about the next breeding season!
If you plan to breed your mare this year, now is the perfect time to:
• Choose your stallion
• Contact the stallion owner to learn their collection and shipping schedule
• Schedule a pre-breeding exam so we can evaluate your mare and plan the best breeding timing
Starting early helps ensure we can coordinate semen shipments, monitor your mare’s cycle, and give you the best chance for a successful pregnancy.

Foaling season is one of the most exciting times of year, and we’re always here to help if you have questions or concerns along the way. Whether you need help preparing for foaling, scheduling a newborn exam, or planning your mare’s next breeding, don’t hesitate to reach out. We’re looking forward to another wonderful season of healthy mares and new foals!

I am retired from raising mule foals but someone recently reminded me that not everyone that is foaling out a mare due with a mule has this information. One foaling season we had four NI+ mares. Lots of seramune, foal lac, washing baby bottles and amazing bonding time bottle feeding those mule foals for 32 hours. I wouldnt trade any of those moments.

Lots to prepare for the foaling season. An inexpensive item is Fleets e***a’s. I always give my foals an e***a soon after they find their legs. Their first black tarry stool, meconium, can be difficult to pass and can lead to impaction if they don’t successfully pass it. Usually one e***a is sufficient but sometimes it takes two. $3.00 versus much larger Veterinarian bill or even death. Stock up now before the first foal is born.

📣Foaling Season is here!

Need a refresher? Our online short course is self-paced and only $100!

The specific goals of the course are to provide practical information on care of the late-term pregnant mare, how to predict impending foaling, the normal series of events during an uneventful foaling, early recognition of a dystocia plus when/how to intervene and when to call for assistance, how to stimulate breathing to resuscitate a foal following birth, how to evaluate an equine placenta and recognize important abnormalities, review post-partum complications of the mare, discuss how to provide routine care to a newborn foal, outline common medical problems of neonatal foals, and review developmental milestones that occur during the first year of a foal’s life. This course is designed to provide foaling attendants with critical information needed to make appropriate decisions in difficult situations that will hopefully lead to a positive outcome regarding the health and well-being of both the mare and her newborn foal.

Mare is confirmed in foal for an early May foal ( May 3rd) with a LFG from breeder. I am selling the mare as 2-1. Sassy is a nice mare to be around. She does like her butt scratched and will follow you until she gets some scratches Easy keeper, easy breeder, good with farrier, loads in trailer and an excellent mother. Lots of milk and has no problem with you being in the pen with her during foaling. I am selling as a broodmare only but she has been ridden, not by me as I have only used as a broodmare.

Mare is papered but I do not have her registration. I bought her from a friend that was involved in removing several head of horses from a Ranch. Owner would not reliquish papers with the horses. I do have a copy of her Sire which I will include with the pictures.

Sassy is a 2000 model but nothing about her shows that. This cross comes with some exceptional color possibilities. I will include Color genetic chart

Located in Great Falls, Montana. If need transportation I can give recommendations of haulers I have used in the past. Mule foal is sold and will be weaned middle of September and mare can leave the ranch after that.
