Over the years, customers and friends have gifted us some pretty special honeybee treasures—and many of them have found a permanent home right on our cart.

A huge thank you to Dani Wagner for this copy of The Hive and the Honey Bee! 📚🐝 This one won’t just sit on our shelf. We’ll be sharing it with fellow beekeepers through the Brown County Beekeepers Association, where it can be enjoyed and learned from for years to come.

The wait is over! Our bees have been hard at work turning Northeast Wisconsin wildflowers into fresh, raw honey, and the first harvest of 2026 is now in the cart.

From golden comb fresh off the hive to jars ready for your table, this is honey just as the bees made it—raw, unfiltered, and harvested right here at A-Frame Acres.

Whether you’re stocking up on your favorite size, grabbing a squeeze bear for the kids, or treating yourself to a piece of fresh comb honey, we’ve got you covered.

🐝🍯 Nature told the story this week.

Our bees started the week with an incredible clover nectar flow, averaging nearly 5 pounds of honey per colony in a day! 🌼

Then came the 90° heat. Instead of making honey, the bees shifted their focus to collecting water and cooling the hive to protect the next generation. ❤️

As temperatures eased, Canadian wildfire smoke moved in, making foraging even more difficult.

Even with heat and smoke working against them, our bees adapted, and did what honey bees have done for millions of years—put the colony first.

That’s why every jar of local honey tells a story far bigger than honey. 🍯🐝

📊🐝 What Can a Hive Weight Chart Tell Us? Quite a Bit, Actually.

This chart tracks the four colonies in our St. Pat’s apiary over the past week. Every line represents the weight of a hive, and every gain or loss tells part of the story.

🌧️ Early in the week, rain and cooler temperatures slowed foraging activity.

☀️ Once the weather improved and the clover bloom kicked into high gear, the colonies with young queens began packing away nectar. SP2 and SP4 gained more than 15 pounds in just a few days, showing what happens when strong queens, healthy bees, and abundant forage come together.

👑 The chart also helped identify two older queen colonies that weren’t keeping pace. A closer inspection revealed one queen nearing retirement after years of service, while another colony had already solved the problem on its own by raising a young replacement queen from proven local genetics.

That’s the value of Beekeeping by the Data.

The scales don’t replace hive inspections—they help us know where to look and when to look. Instead of treating every colony the same, we can focus our attention where it’s needed most.

Technology isn’t just about producing more honey. It’s about becoming better stewards of the environment. By monitoring colony health, forage conditions, and queen performance, we can make more responsible management decisions while supporting healthy honey bee populations alongside the many native pollinators that share our landscape.

For our customers, it means healthier bees, smarter management, stronger local genetics, and better local honey.

Every jar of honey starts with thousands of tiny decisions made by the bees—and a beekeeper paying attention to what the data is saying. 🍯🐝
