Best garden comeback story unfolding….

If you’ve been following a while, you know that this year is my takeback year for the garden. It’s been three years of overgrowth with no attempt made on my part other than to keep everything from being 10 feet tall.

Until this year.

And boy has it been quite the project!

This year is just about gaining control, even if it’s chaotic control lol. It’s also about building good garden habits and finding small wins.

Follow along if you are about finding small wins in life as often as possible when it comes to healthy choices and options!

Some of the best moments in life happen gathered around a table. šŸ¤

A few simple ways to start:

Happy Mother’s Day from all of our farm moms to all of you human mamas!

Special shout out to the mamas to my grand kiddos, to the kiddos that made me a mama into my mama as well!

Whether today is a joyous day or a hard day for you, know that there is one that fills the gaps in all of the roles that we have in life. God the Father is so good. When things aren’t adding up, when they are hard or even fall apart, we can trust Him to use all@things for our good (as we are His) and to His glory.

Preserving nature.

While Part of building our farm includes fencing, and dogs, it also includes preserving as much as we can for nature to continue to do its thing.

This was so cool to see this afternoon as in the middle of the day the dear came right up to the living quarters, and even hung out with the chickens for a little while.

Let’s just keep them away from the garden šŸ˜‚

Rainy days call for something slow, simple, and worth sitting down for.

A good cut of beef, a few real ingredients, and time to let it do its thing. That’s it.

This is the kind of meal that reminds you why quality matters—and why knowing where your food comes from changes everything.

We’re getting closer to having beef available, and meals like this are exactly what we have in mind when we say real food.

From our farm to your table, soon.

The only time that’s a good time to have lamb on your plate is….

When you’re hungry! That’s right, you don’t need a special occasion. This is a classic in our house.

Greens, any lamb (leftovers when we have them) and any of the following:

Cucumber
Tomato
Marinated artichokes
Tzatziki
Hummus
Kalamata olives
Pickled red onions
Feta
And a splash of dressing if you so choose such as balsamic vinaigrette, a Greek dressing of any kind, a little olive oil or nothing at all, because you loaded it with hummus and tzatziki!

-be sure to save this and give us a follow for more practical recipes like this!

Let the shedding begin!! (Or wrap up!!)

Did you know that there are some sheep that have wool that is so heavy and thick that they must be sheared annually and then there are what is called hair sheep that grow some wool within the hairs that are naturally shed out in the spring as the weather gets warm?

Yep! Our girls have been using fence lines and tree branches, and anything else they can rub up against as a scratcher to pull it off. Every time I walk into a field, I find someone’s coat laying on the ground. Haha

Fun fact- the thicker the wool, the higher lanolin presence.
More lanolin changes the taste. And vice versa. Less changes the taste too!!

I was never a big fan of lamb meat until the last seven or so years when I had hair meat grown on a farm. I was so amazed that I went from not liking it at all to it being one of my primary sources of protein!

We’ll get into the nutrition another time, but this was a big reason why we chose hair sheep on our farm. The taste that I’ve personally noticed.

Have you noticed a difference?

Also- pray for rain. We need consistent rain in smaller amount to soak in to the ground. The girls aren’t very happy with the option of hay when grass made an appearance. šŸ˜‚

Heart worm check- passed! Rabies 3 yr- complete! Vet check- check check! She helps take care of pasture protection and we take care of her. Our sweet Snow.

If you’ve been over before you may know her as the ā€œhands offā€ dog. She’s had her past with a few issues. But she has come a long way and did great out and about today.

Good job Snow Girl!

Why do you leave her outside? Do you do that year round?

Yes. We leave her outside year round with the only exception being illness or puppy birthings. This is her life and all she knows. We get in there and she gives all the lovings… but when you get down to it, these sheep are her family. This particular pasture is a few acres and she chooses to be right next to them at vulnerable times.

For those concerned- she is good in any temp as long as she has adequate shelter. Shade and water in summer, wind blocks and a spot that is dry and holds warmth in the winter. It’s all good.

If you have vulnerable livestock, do you have a guardian dog?
